All School News

Greetings, BCS Families!

We are nearing the end of Quarter 1 with Monday, November 1 as the official end of the first marking period. As a reminder, Grades 5-8 Report Cards will be released on November 8, 2021; Grades 3-4 will be released on November 15, 2021. A separate letter for 3-4 families will be sent with instructions to access grades and information about standards-based grading reflected in 3-4 report cards like our other elementary schools in the district.

Either way, it is a good time to pause and help students reflect on their learning thus far this year, both in terms of their academic and social-emotional learning. With insights from the cognitive sciences, we know when students externalize and articulate what they know, their learning deepens, and so, we encourage you to dialogue regularly with students about their learning. This skill will help encourage meta-cognition and reflection, which also contribute to deeper, more impactful learning.

The resource posted below provides some helpful sample questions you may use or modify to facilitate the conversation at home related to students' learning. We hope you find this useful.

We wish everyone a fantastic weekend!

Yours in BCS solidarity,

Dr. Hakim & Mr. Hill

Proud Dads

We are pleased to announce our first (of the year) and most prized Proud Dads Night! So set the alarm and mark your calendar to be at the Dow Monday, October 25th @ 7 PM. At this meeting, we'll succinctly share the opportunities to get involved in our school and improve kids' lives. We've got all kinds of offerings planned this school year, some big, some small, but all of them, with your support, will put a smile on a kid's face! Moreover, following the meeting, we can enjoy a great Monday Night Football game and a toast to a beautiful new school year!

Side note, dads, this is also an excellent opportunity to make some connections/friends with fathers across our district.

See you, folks, soon.

Be well,

David Wilner, Nirav Doshi & Jason Hill
