Sherman Stars - Working Together for a Bright Future!
Principal Message
Thank you to the many families that joined us for our Snow Much Fun Night this past Thursday. We hope you enjoyed the evening. It was great to see so many smiling faces and families having fun together. The blankets that you helped make will be donated to local charities. If you took a family photo and wasn't able to pick up, we will be sending them home with your child today or Monday.
Sincerely,
Mandy Van Vleet

What's Happening Next Week:
No School for students Monday, January 23rd
What will staff be doing on January 23rd? This day is set aside for professional development for all staff. This month Sherman staff will focus on Culturally Relevant teaching practices. In the afternoon, teachers will be collaborating on unit lesson planning. Teachers will use the Common Core State Standards to guide their learning targets and assessments. These learning targets outline what a student should know and be able to do at the end of unit, assessment period or lesson. For more information about Common Core State Standards click here.
- Sherman Stars have been reviewing our Sherman Expectations since returning from winter break. This week we are focusing on our CORE Value Safety. Our "I can" statement is " I can work and play carefully."
Intruder Alert Drill- January 27th
As part of our focus on our CORE value Safety, we will be practicing an Intruder Alert drill. The more we practice drills, the more ‘routine’ they will become for students, allowing them to feel safe and calm. In the event of an emergency situation, it is vital that staff and students know exactly what to do and are able to react quickly and appropriately. Know that our teachers always discuss and practice these drills with their students prior to our school-wide drills. We hope that we will never need to use this in any real-life safety situation; however, we know that we need to be prepared.
