Words of Inspiration

“Errors using inadequate data are much less than those using no data at all.”

-Charles Babbage

A Special Applause to...

I want to send a special shout out to the math and language arts teachers who have participated in the MAP meetings with Tricia, Lisa, and me. The last thing we all need is another meeting, but the time we spent with you was worthwhile. It was amazing to see the things you already do and excited to be able to push you further to focus on targeted skills with all students, regardless of achievement levels. I know the work you do with students will lead to positive results and I can't wait to see them in the winter!

PD on the Fly...

I found this article particularly interesting as I reflected on the PLC work at Greene. So much time is spent planning lessons and collecting and analyzing data. The author, Katrina Schwartz, acknowledges that the idea of Strategic Inquiry is much like the work of a PLC, but points out that there are a couple of differences. She states, "Two things are especially important: the size of the problem the group works on and using student work as the evidence for both making instructional tweaks and determining if they worked. Assumptions about why kids can’t do something are actively discouraged in the process."

Continue to dig into student work and identify the skills students lack. Help them obtain these skills through a focused approach. I hope this article makes you pause and reflect as you continue to help students grow. Enjoy!

Information for the Staff

High Quality Student Data

As we discussed last Tuesday at the OTES meeting, we are asking you to select two sources of High Quality Student Data by October 18. You can CLICK HERE to view the response sheet. I will be turning that into a document that is easier to read after October 18. If you are on full evaluation this year, you need to be ready to discuss the two sources you choose at the pre conference. We understand that with the sources of HQSD you choose, you may not be at the point where you have met all of the criteria yet. Be ready to discuss and share how you will use those sources to meet the criteria. With that said, this is a pilot year. We will learn together on how to best implement this new process for future years.

FLEX Time & Intervention Class

Students have been scheduled into Intervention classes to help close gaps in their learning. It is imperative that students attend these classes regularly. Intervention classes are data driven and designed to meet the needs of individual students. Intervention Teachers cannot have students make up work during their class, work on homework, or have students pulled back to team during the time they are expected to be teaching students.

Bullying Presentation for Staff

We were asked to hold a meeting about the Bullying Policy. I want you to view the presentation. If you have any questions, I will schedule a time to meet with you. If not, you will need to sign off that you viewed the presentation. This will need to be done before next Friday, October 18, 2019. As you know, the district does not tolerate any form of bullying, harassment or intimidation. If bullying is reported to you, it needs to be forwarded to one of the administrators no later than the next school day, per BOE Policy. You can view the presentation by clicking HERE. After viewing, you will need to sign off by clicking HERE.
