SEL Activity: Understanding the Thoughts-Feelings-Behavior Connection
PK-1 Activity
Emotion Jack-O-Lantern - A nonverbal communication activity with Autumn spirit.
Print and use the activity sheet by clicking on the following link:
https://www.centervention.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Emotion-Jack-O-Lanterns-2017.pdf
1. Discuss the emotions on the activity sheet whole group. Ask students what each emotion looks like. Show the jack-o-lantern pieces so students make a connection.
2. After completing the jack-o-lantern activity (cut, paste, and color), ask students what things they can say and do when someone is feeling like.....(use the emotion words on the activity sheet).
2-5 Activity
Social Spy - In this activity, students will become social detectives, observing peopleโs body language and facial expressions in public spaces to figure out how they may be feeling.
Print and use the activity sheet by clicking on the following link:
https://www.centervention.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Social-Spy-worksheet.pdf
1. Divide students in to four groups. Give each one of the following group names (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). Assign one of the first four questions from the activity sheet to each group. On their respective day of the week, each group will observe their peers and answer their assigned question.
2. On Friday, groups will share their findings. The teacher will engage the students in answering the 5th question whole group.
