Diversity Alliance Club
Diversity Alliance Club
Did you know…
In December, our Burton Diversity Alliance Club learned about embracing our differences, respect, and equality for all. We reflected on the quote: “A garden looks most beautiful when it has flowers of all colors, all sizes, all fragrances,” by Shreya N., a 12th Grader in India. We also did a visible thinking routine called Zoom In on a piece of artwork titled Equality, by Nuera Wencesa from the Philippines. We engaged in partner and group discussion after asking ourselves questions like “Why is equality important?” and “How does this artwork show respect? How does it represent equality?” We also learned about the street artist Thank You X and his cube murals. He uses symbolism and color to express himself. Lastly, we created our own cube mural collage by each creating a cube with symbols and designs that reflect each of us and our beliefs. Students shared symbols of peace, kindness, diversity, equality, equity, and respect. The mural is hanging outside the office to inspire our whole school family. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact club advisors: Mrs. Keller or Mr. Torres.
Burton Birdhouses Return
Our staff is very excited to be starting up our Burton Birdhouses again! Our first meeting will be Wednesday, Jan. 18 from 8:15-8:45 am. Birdhouses first began in January of 2020, but were short-lived before shifting into remote learning. Birdhouses are TK-5 multi-age groups, and each group is assigned to a staff member and classroom. The staff member facilitates this half hour monthly meeting with the same group of students all year. The goal of Birdhouses is to build relationships and a culture of leadership and connection within our school family.
