The Black Sox Scandal

black socks history

Black sox

The white Sox later known as the Black sox did something they shouldn't have done, they forfeited a match against the Cincinnati Reds. The 8 players were banned from playing any professional baseball for life. One of these players was none other than "shoeless" joe Jackson the pitchers were Eddie Cicotte and Claude "Lefty" Williams, infielder were Buck Weaver, Arnold "Chick" Gandil, Fred McMullin and Charles "Swede" Risberg and Outfielder Oscar "happy" Felsch.

Black sox

The black sox have lost their games on purpose because they didn't get paid enough money, so when they lost on purpose they got up to 12,500$ for every player and when the fans found out they were mad at them because baseball is supposed to be a clean game and they just made it dirty.

The Fix

In 1919 Gandil approached Sullivan and told him that he and other players could make allot of money if they could make the white sox lose, he said that he could make 100,000$.

Sullivan thought that he had one more shot to make a big one before he retired

The White Sox were made in the 1900s the person who owned this team was Charles Comiskey. The White Sox used to be called the White stockings then they shortened the name to the White Sox. By defeating the chicago bears the White Sox have gotten bad luck for 8 years they have been losing more than they won this was bad for the White Sox reputation.
