End of the Year Message from Mr. Cook
Parents and Guardians,
Thank you for all of your support this year. This year had its difficulties but we have made it to the end. We survived digital (virtual) classrooms, hybrid schedules, and in person teaching. This year is also different as it is our last year in our old building. This next year we move locations but we will be the same school at its core. This next year we look forward to serving your students and our community in the old YMS building. Please enjoy your summer break and try to get your kids to read and play board games this summer. By reading it will help them practice a needed skill they need before next school year and playing board games will help them prepare for next year by learning needed social skills while working with others. I hope you enjoy the nice weather this summer. Below are a couple of commonly asked questions about this next year I would like to address:
1. Will elementary students be separated from the middle school students?
Yes. The middle school and the elementary will have a fence between them. At times the middle school will hold PE with their teachers on the grass behind where the elementary school students will be playing but adults will be keeping them separated.
2. Do students have to wear masks next year?
At this time the Depart of Health says yes that they will have to wear masks. We will have to see what the rules and regulations say in late August as they could change between now and next year.
3. Can we move to 5 days a week with no masks?
This next year we will be moving to 5 days a week of school and we will be making it as normal as possible for the students. As to having to wear masks we will have to wait on the Department of Health and see what the regulations will be about mask wearing in late August to answer that question.
4. When do we return Chromebooks?
All current fifth graders are returning Chromebooks this year on the last day of school. Anyone that wants to return their students Chromebook prior to summer is welcome to do so. Have your child turn the Chromebook into the library prior to their last day of school or on June 16th between 8:00 am -3:00 pm in the bus loop. All Chromebooks for current kindergarteners through current fourth graders will be collected next year for the students to use in class.
5. Will we still have remote learning on Wednesdays next year?
No. We will be holding school 5 days a week next year. We will be returning to one hour late start for students on Wednesdays with school starting at 9:35 AM and on regular school days school will start at 8:35 AM.
6. Do kids still need Chromebooks next year?
Yes students will need to use Chromebooks in class this next year and they may have to use them for some homework but at this time we will not hold virtual learning.
7. When or how can we tour the new school with our children so they are not lost?
At this time we do not have a Welcome back to school/Open House to allow for tours planned. If this changes and we get one scheduled, we will contact the community and all parents. If you want to tour the school with your child, and we do not communicate that an event is scheduled, please contact the school office in the middle of August to schedule a tour.
Respectfully,
Mr. Cook
