1.November 2, 1963 - South Vietnamese President Ngo Dinh Diem is executed during a coup.

2.August 2 and 4, 1964 - North Vietnamese attack two U.S. destroyers sitting in international waters (the Gulf of Tonkin Incident).

3.March 2, 1965 - A sustained U.S. aerial bombing campaign of North Vietnam begins (Operation Rolling Thunder).

4.March 8, 1965 - The first U.S. combat troops arrive in Vietnam.

5.January 30, 1968 - The North Vietnamese join forces with the Viet Cong to launch the Tet offensive, attacking approximately one hundred South Vietnamese cities and towns.

6.July 1968 - General William Westmoreland, who had been in charge of the U.S. troops in Vietnam, is replaced by General Creighton Abrams.

7.July 1969 - President Nixon orders the first of many U.S. troop withdrawals from Vietnam.

8.September 3, 1969 - Communist revolutionary leader Ho Chi Minh dies at age 79.

"we wanted to go home. when we landed back in the US we kissed the dirt and thanked God we were alive," David said. at the young age of only 18 years old David was a platoon leader that was drafted to the war. he rose quickly throughout the ranks for being quick thinking and tough as nails. even with his talents it only took a few long days for most of his platoon to be killed in a fire fight.

Raymond Torres was a marine medic in 1968. In flight, midair the pilots got orders to change there coordinates to fly to Khe Sanh. The pilots didn't even land, they where forced to jump out the back while the plane did a touch and go. when they got to Khe Sanh, they where under mortar attack. they where ordered to head out to an outpost. there they said it was beautiful until they got in to firefights. while at the outpost they get attacked by the Vietnamese. Raymond and his buddy john where ordered to head to the front lines and assist the wounded. there it became hand to hand combat. a grenade landed next to Raymond and blew up. his buddy dragged him out of harms way and a helicopter picked him up in the morning.
