A Message from the Principal
Dear Holy Family Catholic School Community,
We are off to a great start of the 2020-2021 school year! My thanks go to all of you for your help with mask wearing and social distancing – your efforts are making a healthy, positive difference for our students!
Last Wednesday was our first Coffee and Conversation and here are a few highlights for those who were unable to attend. In the meeting I reviewed our four main goals for this quarter, which are:
o Create a welcoming and emotionally safe learning environment for our students.
- We put a Social Emotional Learning and Virtue-Based Restorative Discipleship program in place to help the students’ reentry to school.
o Assess and respond to learning gaps.
- Your child’s current teacher is meeting and collaborating with last years’ teacher to identify and remediate learning gaps from last quarter.
- Students will become more involved with their own academic goals setting this year.
o Reduce homework stress.
- We have built study halls into our schedule to reduce the amount of work done at home.
o Keep working on improved delivery of distance learning/anticipate stay at home orders.
- Our teachers continue to learn how to navigate Google Classroom to support in-school, and distance, learning.
Here is some other important information for you:
o The date for Parent-Teacher Conferences has changed to October 16 from 12:00 to 4:00, there is no school on this day.
o We will no longer be using IOWA as our national testing instrument, the Diocese has adopted be using ACT Aspire, testing dates TBD.
o Fall Fest has been postponed.
Blessings,
Ann Walters

Notes from Nurse Lisa
I'm sure several of you are familiar with the line from a song with the same title
"I get by with a little help from my friends"...
Now more than ever, we all need a little help to get by. Our excited, joyful students are back at school annnnd, it's not quite how they remembered it! They see their classmates, but cannot walk in-step with them. They are in their classroom, but it's spread out and feels empty. Oh, and they have to eat their lunch in there too. And even at recess, their opportunity to enjoy space and the freedom to play, they have to be mindful of masks and 6 feet.
Your children are doing a great job managing all these changes within something that is so familiar to them. and some days may just not be as joyful as they, or you, want them to be. Managing the expectations of Covid precautions and the rigor of school can make some days not so joyful as they, or you, want them to be. Remind your child that it is perfectly normal to feel a little anxious, or even letdown, from what they thought school was going to be and what the reality is. These feelings should pass as they settle in to their new learning environment, but be prepared if they don't.
If you have a concern, reach out to their teacher, Mrs. Walters or myself so that we can help 'our friend' get by 🙂
