Walking Study Trip
Next Thursday afternoon, we will be walking to the Union County Public Library so that we may share our excitement about the Iditarod with area home schooled students. At the beginning of the school year, you gave written permission for your child to take walking field trips within our community. If you do not wish for your child to participate in this experience, please send me this in writing by Monday, January 21, so that I might make alternate plans for your child during this time. We will be departing at apx. 12:30 in the afternoon and will likely be gone for just over an hour. Please make sure your child is dressed very warmly (heavy coats, boots, hats, scarves, gloves, etc.).
Into the Woods, Jr. Study Trip
Speaking of study trips...We are also planning to go to the school day performance of Into the Woods, Jr. at Richmond Civic Theater on February 8. Chaperones will not be needed on this day. There are no fees involved for this trip, but we still need written permission from you on or before January 28. Please look for the permission slip in today's Friday folder.
Historical Heroes...Techie Style
Our LifeSkill focus of courage, has provided a natural springboard for the discussion of Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges, and Martin Luther King, Jr. as good citizens. Using our SmartBoard, I’ve been modeling the use of the Internet for research and educational purposes. On their own, students have been researching these historical leaders on the Internet-based BrainPop Jr. Has your child been on this website lately at home? The login/password combination for BrainPop Jr. is as follows:
login: ucoin
password: brainpop
Math Facts Progress
We are getting to the point where many students have mastered their math facts in both addition and subtraction and are currently working on mixed (+/-) operations. Way to go second graders!!!! If your child is not there...yet...please keep practicing at home so that (s)he is one step closer to that goal.
Next Week's Share Topic
Free Choice! It's the one they've been waiting for. Students may share about anything they'd like. Please make sure, though, that they've practiced and have stayed (or in some cases reached) within the time expectations.
