Cross Country Update
Battle of Turtle Creek Update:
It was a beautiful, sunny day for the second year of "The Battle of Turtle Creek" at Genoa. Both HS teams remain undefeated at their home invitational.
HS Boys: First place. Top seven: Derek Rightnowar (18:07), Tyson Lesher (18:14), Darin Muir (18:17), Ross Schlatter (18:39), London Stuller (19:24), Nathan Cooper (19:35), and Nolan Weaver (19:45).
PRs: Biggest PR of the day goes to Colin "Hard Work" Brazelton, who dropped another 40 seconds, followed by freshman Logan Evans (-38), Orion Buffington (-35), Brandon "Bleachers" Hudson (-27), Ryan Vargo (-17), Randy "Sandman" Matheny (-3), Ben Loomis (-2), and Tim Mathews (-1). The Genoa course is the wrong place to PR, but someone forgot to tell that to these guys.
HS Girls: First place. Top seven: Sara Partin (22:06), Sophie Richards (22:15), Marainna Heninger (22:21), Keerstin Pelow (23:37), Jordyn Bronowski (23:56), Katelyn Bachmayer (24:14), and Alexys Zellner (26:07).
Our home invitational takes a lot of work. Thanks to Steve Hochanadel for putting everything together, AD Matt Routson who's been helping us make it work for weeks, Larry Blausey for making the course look great, Matt Schlatter for all the great photos, the band and the DJ for making our meet fun and unique, the Boosters for running concessions, Jeff Overmyer who always gets stuck running timing at the chute and never complains, Tim Murray for being a timer who rolls with the punches, Antony Sharples for the great T-shirts, and all the parents who chipped in so that we had more than enough volunteers. Finally, we have a great XC team who set up most of the course and stayed late to take it down after the meet. What a fantastic crew.

Genoa Equestrian Team
Competitions are held on Sundays at the Ottawa County Fairgrounds in the Horse Arena. Genoa competes for points with Clay and Fremont, although Port Clinton, Oak Harbor, Clyde, and Hopewell-Louden also have teams at these events. After two meets, Genoa leads their division by 6 points. Their final meet is this Sunday beginning at 9 a.m. and the outcome from this meet determines which team will continue on to the State Meet at Fulton County Fairgrounds on October 6th. Mornings at the meet consist of Western and English showmanship and horsemanship, while mid- to late afternoon are comprised of speed events, including racing around barrels, weaving between poles, and finishing off with a relay race around the arena.
There is no cost to come watch, and it can get very exciting. So if you are looking for something to do this Sunday, drive out to the fairgrounds on State Route 163 and check it out!

Construction Appreciation Week
This week was Construction Appreciation Week. A career in construction offers good pay and benefits, ability to continue education, potential to advance, and opportunities to be your own boss. In the next 10 years, the construction industry will need additional workers to cover new work and a retiring workforce. And it’s not just careers in the skilled trades. Administrative, design, and construction management careers are all on the rise, and we’re here to build the future workforce of America.
The Career Path Less Taken
The construction industry in Ohio and across the nation is no stranger to the growing gap between demand and supply of a skilled workforce.
A new documentary film, “The Career Path Less Taken,” travels across the state of Ohio to explore new ways of preparing young people for skilled jobs.
The documentary is co-produced by CET in Cincinnati, ideastream in Cleveland, and WOSU in Columbus and premiered on PBS on Thursday, September 5, 2019. Click the link above to view the video or visit the I Build America - Ohio website to learn more.
