Behavior
If a student is choosing behaviors that work against our Tribes philosophy of giving mutual respect and attentive listening, they will receive a warning. After a warning, they will receive a checkmark for each behavior. This will be monitored within the classroom, encore classes, lunch room, and at recesses. Once a student has three checkmarks, they will stay in for the next recess to complete a think sheet.
In some cases, the think sheet will be sent home for parents to sign and discuss with their fifth grader. If the behavior continues, a more formal consequence will be determined by the classroom teacher.

Language Arts
Reading - We began one of my favorite reading units this week....Argument and Advocacy. Our students are learning how to read with a critical eye. Students are learning to ask questions as they read information. What is the claim being made? What reasons are given to support that claim? What is the evidence to support the claim being made? Ask your student what an unsubstantiated claim is! :)
Writing - Our Research Based Argument Essay Unit pairs perfectly with our reading unit. Students are learning how to write an essay based on a claim and then support their claim with reasons and evidence to try and convince the reader. This week, they are writing about chocolate milk in schools. Feel free to ask your student which side they chose and what evidence they read about to support their claim.
Science
Math
- Completed Unit 4 Quiz 1

- Multiplied when both factors were decimals
Please check your child's Math Friday Folder for their quiz. These grades did not go in the grade book, but were used as a progress monitoring tool to gauge their understanding.
