The Begininng of the Battle of Bull Run
President Abraham Lincoln ordered Brigadier General Irvin McDowell to mount an offensive that would hit the enemy quickly. General McDowell was in command of 35,000 soldiers which gathered up in Federal Capital. The confederate General P.G.T Beauregard was informed that they were going to be attacked so he told his reinforcement General Joseph E. Johnston. When the Union attacked on July 21, shelling the confederate across Bull Run while more troops crossed the Bull Run river to hit the confederates from the left.
More and More reinforcement fro the south arrived . General Beauregard order a counterattack along the union line. As the confederates approached yelling they managed to break the union line. The Union retreated and headed to Washington. Confederate won the battle.
