Chinese New Year is to have fun and enjoy the Chinese culture................
The traditional Chinese calendar is believed to have been invented by Qin Shi Huangdi and is different from the Gregorian calendar used in western societies. The Chinese have celebrated their New Year for over 2000 years. The date changes each year in accordance with the phases of the moon. The new Chinese year begins on the first full moon from 21 January onwards.
Today, celebrations of this festival have become popular in many countries beyond China that have large numbers of people of Chinese descent. Many people enjoy watching the dancers who parade through city streets with long and colourful dragons and the fireworks that are intended to ward off evil spirits.
