STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK!
Thank you for all you do for making Westview a place where our students want to be each day!
Westview staff- Thank you for being there for our kids day in and day out.
Thank you for all you do! Westview Staff is the BEST!!
Thank you for all your time, effort and energy you devote to teaching my two Westview students. It is much appreciated.
Thank you for teaching our children.
I'm thankful for all the teachers who influenced my daughter during last 4 years journey in Westview High School, one of the top schools in Oregon. Your professionalism, consideration as well as support in terms of academic, personal development, and college plan help my daughter spend her 4 years happily and positively. I'm sure she will have a bright college life ahead.
I would like to thank all of my teachers for getting me to where I am. Being a teacher is not easy work and I appreciate that they care about me and want to see me grow as a person. Their commitment and willingness to teach me is the reason why I am where I am today. I don't know what I would have done or where I would be today if it weren't for my teachers.
Thanks for putting up with all of us :)
To all staff members of Westview, Thank you for all you have done ever since you've joined Westview. Your courage to make the hard choice to educate the next generation always inspires me to push above and beyond in not only my academics, but also in everything else in my life. Your work truly goes unappreciated, but know that the students you impact every single day recognize the effort you put in.
Very good and great community and makes me feel welcome.
I wish there were words that could capture my appreciation for every staff member at Westview. Collectively, you all are the backbone of society and your influence extends far beyond what you see right now. Thank you.
Thank you to all those who say good morning to students even if they don’t always say it back.

Westview High School's Second Annual Golf Tournament
Please join us at the second annual Westview Golf tournament at Rock Creek Country Club. This is a fundraising event dedicated to improving our school facilities and equipment. Last year we were able to raise enough funds to put a fence around our track which has helped with athletic events, PE classes, and safety as we replaced the cord that previously surrounded the track. This year we are raising funds to buy a utility vehicle to transport students if they are injured, set up events, haul items, and allow quick access to our outside facilities.
If you are interested in playing in the tournament you can sign up at tinyurl.com/WestviewGolf. It cost $100 per player and that comes with 18 holes, dinner, golf cart, entrance in the KP/Long Drives and range balls. We also hold a silent auction and raffle at the event. If you are interested in donating or sponsoring the tournament please contact Troy Christiansen (503)356-3056 or via email troy_christiansen@beaverton.k12.or.us

Technology
Happy Sunday Staff! This week's newsletter brings you some more super cool information (http://bit.ly/WHSstafftech18):
Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality Field Trips/Experiences
Mrs. Oderman’s psychology class took the plunge into the nervous system (and VR) this week, exploring a GoogleExpedition. All the hiccups that could have been had--and there were only a few--have been ironed out, and the kids had fun! (They even gasped and said, “What?!?!” THERE ARE OVER 900 VR FIELD TRIPS OUT THERE! (Click here to preview a LONG list.) And that is just the tip of the iceberg. Lesson plans, student led-expeditions, student *created* expeditions. If you are even slightly interested, ask me to give you a 5 minute tutorial. I think you will be hooked. And the AR (Augmented Reality)...virtual rulers, hearts, brains, nervous systems...Augmented Reality opens up a whole new take on in-depth study.
Library:
This week our library is testing out a fun new interactive Java installation. Each kiosk illustrates a use of OpenSource Java using an interactive format. As students walk by, the programs create music. Each program is offline, but they illustrate the use of Java. As the programs are opensource, if your student is interested, they can download them and edit them to create something new. In our building, Mr. Tensa teaches the Java class, in case this sparks an interest for next year. We love to hear students making music as they engage with our library. More than a Library CreationStation Campaign:
The library at Westview High School has developed a Creative Space for the students with a green screen, arts & crafts, games, and puzzles. We'd like to expand our offerings so the students can continue to create and explore during their time with us. Additionally, they would be more than welcome to use these resources when constructing projects for class: posters, art, collages. The dream would be to have all the materials available for everyone equally.
Would you like to help? Click this link to View our campaign. Please feel free to share on social media! Every donation is tax deductible, and we would also lovingly accept used/new craft supplies you have at home. Everything helps :)
All Things Change
Next month when you are searching for TeamDrives, you will notice a difference. There won’t be something called “TeamDrives”. Google is changing the name of TeamDrives to SharedDrives. This will not impact functionality, just a name change, but thought you’d like to know. :)
Have any tech issues, questions, lesson ideas, or concerns? Please send me an email and I can create a presentation or look into a solution for you. You can also drop by my office in the library any time. http://bit.ly/WHSstafftech18

REMINDERS
Budget Message to the Community
The proposed budget that will be presented at the District Budget Committee meeting on Monday, April 22, will be reflective of:
An anticipated District-wide shortfall of $35 million for 2019-20
District-wide personnel reductions that include administrative, teacher and classified staff
A budget reduction of 15% across schools
An increase in student-teacher ratio/class sizes
Elimination of funding for PYP coordinators and PYP world language teachers (among other programs)
Reduction of elementary intervention teachers from full-time to half-time
Our classroom staffing allocation will potentially decrease by 13 teachers. This could change in the coming months as enrollment numbers settle and the budget picture becomes more clear.
We acknowledge that the principles of inquiry-based instruction, student voice, transdisciplinary learning, science, technology and global thinking are and will continue to be a great asset to our students and staff. The district will continue to work with our PYP, STEAM, EL schools to explore possibilities that allow for continued partnerships in the future.
I encourage all parents to stay informed of the BSD budget process and participate as you see fit. We are also dependent on Oregon State Legislative decisions that can either add to or detract from our funding estimates.
Seniors at Risk
Below is a form we need all teachers of seniors to complete for any senior at risk. Counselors and administrators will be reviewing this information on Tuesday. If you have not already done so, please complete this for any senior in your class who is at risk of failing.
