Introduction to Art / Element of Line Explorations

"Hockney Inspired Still Life Drawing"

In this exercise, students can explore the use of varied line and see its influence on a subject. Start by developing three line drawings of a still life from three different perspectives using contour line, weighted line (lines of different thicknesses), and expressive line.

Introduction to Art / Element of Line Explorations

"Drawing with Hatching and Crosshatching"

How can hatched and crosshatched lines contribute to form in a composition? Create a set of five pencil drawings to explore the possibilities. Hold an object in your hand and draw what you see. Ask yourself, "Where is the light source and how can I show the direction of light and shade in my work?" Capturing proportion while drawing three dimensional objects can be challenging yet requires little materials, try this at home and surprise yourself.

Photography I

"Aperture Practice"

Adjusting the lens of the camera not only changes to overall exposure of a picture but greatly affects depth of field. Different f /stops can completely change the story of a photograph.

UConn ECE Drawing

Economists agree that recycling is a necessary step to providing a future for our planet. How can we as consumers use our recycled goods for the purpose of art? Can we see the beauty in what we are so use to discarding and how can Stippling be used to show directional lighting?
