Activities are in full swing here at MMS. Our popular Game Club has started, our fall sports teams are wrapping up their seasons, and Drama Club is working hard to prepare for our first production, "The Wacky Horror Cyber Show." Check out the flyer below for dates and ticket information. This week concludes our fall NWEA testing. Students worked hard, and the data will be used by teachers for planning and to measure student achievement and growth for this academic year. We hope that you are all enjoying all that is fall in Maine! 🍎 🎃

MMS Winter Athletics Announcement

SPIRIT WEEK AT MMS 10/24-10/28!

In support of our veterans, Massabesic Middle School will host a Spirit Week from October 24-28. Each day there will be a dress up theme and we are asking for a $1 per day participation donation. These donations will be used to benefit the Annual Bring A Vet to Dinner Event that will be held on December 1st. Look for more information about this event in the November Family Newsletter.


The dress up days are as follows:


Monday: Massabesic School Spirit Day

Tuesday: Patriotic Day (Red, White and Blue)

Wednesday: Decades Day

Thursday: Cozy Day (No stuffed animals or pillows please)

Friday: Mismatch Day (dress in mismatched clothes for our Mix-Up lunch)

Fall Conferences November 10th

MMS Fall conferences will be held after school on November 10th with each student's homeroom teacher. Conferences are set up to be virtual, however, you can request an in person conference if you wish. The advisor will review grades, team feedback and fall NWEA results. Specialists, special educators and counselors will also be available on this date to conference. Homeroom teachers will be reaching out to families to schedule these conferences in the upcoming weeks.

Ms. Lucas' Vocab Sculptors

On our professional development day MMS staff attended a session to learn some new vocabulary instructional strategies. This week, 8th grade social studies teacher Ms. Lucas brought that new learning into her classroom in a fun and creative way. Ms. Lucas shared, "Seeing the fun ways to enhance students' vocabulary inspired me to look up my own activities, and I adapted an activity called "the shape of learning" to meet my current vocabulary unit. This activity asks students to mold Play Dough into a shape that reminds them of the assigned vocabulary word. " Students had a blast. See photos below!

Sixth Grade Scientists

Sixth graders kicked off their year in science class learning about the structure of atoms and molecules. For their final project of the unit, each student chose an element, completed research about the element to learn about its real-world uses and properties, and also built a three-dimensional model at home depicting their element's unique atom!

Sixth Grade Gatherers

Our sixth grade social studies classes have been working on a STEM challenge to build a device that would enable them to carry food (apples) a long distance (around the room) and back to their habitat to feed their group. They were only given reeds (strips of paper) and resin (glue sticks).

Important Reminder About Dismissal Time

Our last academic block of the day at MMS ends at 1:40. We are asking families to help us maximize our instructional time and please refrain from dismissing students from school prior to 1:40 unless there is an appointment or extenuating circumstance that makes it necessary. Students who are dismissed before this time are missing out on important instructional time during their last block class of the day.

Another job opportunity within RSU 57...

Learn the ins and outs of substitute teaching in RSU #57! Massabesic Center for Adult Learning is offering a course designed for individuals who have never substituted and want to learn more about it, as well as those who have some experience but would like to learn a few tricks of the trade. The current rate of substitute teaching pay is $95 a day. The successful completion of this two-night course will add an additional $5 per day. This course does not qualify for a long term substitute or a bench substitute position. To register here.
