Welcome Back!
We have many events, coming up related to scheduling as we look to build our master schedule for the 2022-2023 school year, including our Eighth Grade Scheduling Night tomorrow! We also encourage you to get out to watch our Rocks in action in our athletic and club extracurricular opportunities.
Please look for a message to come out soon outlining our new COVID-19 quarantine guidelines related to new guidance from the CDC.
Let's make it a great week!
New Information This Week
Grade 10 2022-23 Schedules Due January 6th
All students in Grade 10 met with their counselors right before Winter Break. Students learned more about academic planning and scheduling for 11th grade. The WHS Counselors discussed course opportunities for students and how to register in PowerSchool. Students can find the full course list and course descriptions, as well as graduation requirements, how-to videos, and more on the WHS Scheduling for 2022-2023 website.
PowerSchool will be open through Thursday, January 6 for sophomores to enter their 2022-23 course requests into PowerSchool, and counselors will meet individually with all students from January 10-18 to discuss those requests.
Second Trimester Rock Talk
Our second trimester Rock Talk will be held on Thursday, January 13th at 7pm in the Learning Center. Rock Talk is our WHS version of a TED talk where students share their expertise and passions. The event is sponsored by Mr. Joel Bruns and although there is no admission fee, the group is partnering with Dance Marathon so monetary donations will be welcome. Please join us for a fun evening of Rock Talks!
Jostens Final Cap and Gown Order Day
Jostens will be in our main Shamrock Cafe during all lunches on Friday, January 14th to take FINAL orders for graduation items (seniors) and class rings (freshman and any other interested students). Orders may also be placed at Jostens.com.
Senior Families: The cap, gown, and your 2022 tassel are the only required purchase. You are also free to check out Jostens.com to see several senior class items like announcements, jewelry, and clothing items.

Class of 2022 Evening of Excellence
On December 15th, the Westfield Washington Board of School Trustees recognized WHS seniors with a cumulative grade point average of 3.8 or higher at the Evening of Excellence program. Each of the students was asked to identify two teachers who had an impact on the student's academic performance. Many of them were able to attend and share in this special evening alongside family and friends! Enjoy watching this video with some messages for these accomplished seniors from our WHS staff.
Reminders
Rock Strong Award
Westfield Washington Schools is proud to announce a new staff appreciation initiative: the Rock Strong Award presented by the Westfield Education Foundation! This is a quarterly award, given out at each school plus operations and student support programs, to recognize teachers, instructional assistants, instructional coaches, building secretaries, bus drivers, substitute teachers, food service staff and operations staff for the great work they do for our children and our community!
Each quarter, all schools plus operations and student support programs (BAC/TOTS/All Aboard) will review your nominations and select someone who represents its values and culture to receive the Rock Strong Award. Westfield Education Foundation will present the award winners with a commemorative plaque and a $50 Amazon gift card as a way to show appreciation for all that they do.
Staff, students, families and the public can submit nominations. In order to facilitate this, the submission form will be a constant on the Shamrock Blast and physical submission forms will be available at the front desk of each building.
The first Rock Strong Awards will be given out at the February 8 school board meeting and the submission window for this quarter will close on January 25.
Click here to nominate someone now. It only takes a minute!
Students Should STAY HOME If Not Feeling Well
WHS Students should NOT come to school if they are sick - regardless of vaccination status. There are a number of illnesses going around (not just Covid). It is very important for ill staff and students to stay home.
Please review the list of Covid symptoms on the district website. If you have any of those symptoms- again - regardless of vaccination status and even if you do not have a fever, STAY HOME and contact a healthcare provider.
People who are fully vaccinated still test positive for COVID. The COVID vaccine does not necessarily prevent you from getting COVID but lessens the chances of severe illness. Thank you for your help in limiting the spread of COVID by STAYING HOME when you are ill. That is vital for keeping in-person learning going strong this school year.
Important Reminders for Students and Parents
Two items have come to our attention. The first is that many students are using food delivery services such as Door Dash, Uber Eats, restaurant delivery services, etc. to have lunch delivered. We'd like to remind you that this is not allowed. Please see our policy in the WHS Student handbook:
Students may not have food delivered from an outside source - any exceptions must have approval from an administrator. Students will not be called to the office to pick up lunch – if you anticipate bringing your child’s lunch to school, please let him/her know beforehand to check in the office for his/her lunch. For more information, please see our WHS Student Handbook: https://www.wws.k12.in.us/domain/428
In addition, we have seen an uptick in parents dropping off students before school at Door #1 which is our staff parking lot. We understand that everyone is in a hurry, but this has become a safety issue and we are asking parents to please use ONLY Door #9 (main athletic wing entrance) and Door #32 (main Union wing entrance). Staff and students who walk to school often are in the staff lot and we ask your cooperation in keeping this area free from extra traffic.
