What is going on in the CFHS Counseling Office?

Senior Class of 2021 Tasks

  1. Seniors who are applying to college need to get their applications completed as soon as possible if they have not done that yet!
  2. Seniors need to fill out the FAFSA! See the information below for help sessions available in January and Noelani's information about why it is important to fill out the FAFSA!
  3. If you are undecided for next year, keep exploring careers and colleges. Work in your XELLO portal to find out information about careers and pathways to get there!
  4. If you are attending college, check out the scholarship information below. Remember to check out the Last Dollar Scholarship at many community colleges for high need careers.

Junior Class of 2022

The school counselors met with the juniors in the month of December. We shared important information for students to prepare for their senior year and beyond. Please see the presentation and powerpoint below. Also, students need to do their XELLO tasks. These lessons will give you insight into what classes to take as a senior and what other options you have to explore future careers.

Sophomore Class of 2023

The school counselors met with our sophomores in small groups in November. We were excited to meet the Class of 2023! We shared information and handed out their unofficial transcripts. We also shared information about the required Xello tasks and how they can help in the career and college exploration journey. The presentation is below. Don't forget to do your XELLO tasks!

We will also be sharing information about 2021-22 course registration and all of the opportunities available at CFHS.

Financial Aid Planning Meeting

Juniors and Sophomores and their parents/guardians will want to view this presentation to prepare for how to pay for college. Information about financial aid, FAFSA and scholarships will be included.

Explore Health Careers -A Day In the Life

A Day in the Life is directed toward the eighth grade, high school, and college students exploring healthcare career paths. Nursing, radiography, diagnostic medical sonography, medical laboratory science, occupational therapy, and physical therapy will be highlighted.

Faculty and current students will provide a first-hand look into a variety of healthcare careers.

COVID Recovery Iowa Provides FREE Resources for Iowans

COVID Recovery Iowa is a statewide program to help Iowans recover from the devastating effects of COVID-19 and the derecho. These services are FREE to all Iowans who have been affected in any way by these crises.

Counseling. Sometimes, it just helps to have someone listen. We offer FREE confidential counseling to all Iowans through several methods:

· Iowa Warm Line, 844/775-9276: connect with a peer counselor or request to be connected to a COVID Recovery Iowa counselor.

· Iowa Concern Line, 800/447-1985: provides 24/7 access to stress counselors and other resources, focusing on rural and agriculture topics, including legal issues. Language interpretation is available.

· Spanish language line: 541/800-368. Answered Live in Spanish: Se responde en vivo en español.
