Welcome back Bulldogs!

...and Happy New Year! We hope that the break gave you a chance to recharge your battery, and that you enjoyed plenty of time surrounded by family and friends.

As we embark on the second half of the school year and navigate the continued uncertainties of the pandemic, we would like to ensure that all of our community members are aware of the wide range of mental health resources available in our area. Please review the district's Family Mental Health Services and Support Organizations Reference Guide.

Further, please never hesitate to reach out to your (or your child's) School Counselor if there is a concern you feel we should be aware of, even while operating remotely this week. We are always here for you, and each counselor's contact information is listed at the end of this bulletin!

Junior Planning Night - 1/6/21 via Zoom

Members of the Class of 2023 and their parents/guardians are invited to join us at 7pm on Thursday, January 6th for Junior Planning Night. We will unpack the college admissions process, from the initial search to submission of applications, and eventually picking a destination!

Counselors are also holding group meetings with their juniors via Zoom and/or during recitation. Following the group meetings they will begin scheduling individual planning meetings with each junior.

Please click here to register for the Junior Planning Night webinar. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing joining information.

For those who are unable to attend, a recording of the event and a copy of the slides will be posted on the Counseling website under "Parent Presentations."

ASVAB Testing - 1/20/21

Are you interested in joining a branch of the military after high school? If so, you will be required to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test, and CHS just so happens to be offering the ASVAB test on Thursday, January 20th at 7:45 AM in-person at CHS.

Interested students must register by January 6th, 2022, so if you'd like to take the ASVAB, please email elizabethlee@hvrsd.org asap!

PSAT testing & score reports...

Our sophomores and juniors recently participated in PSAT testing. The PSAT is a valuable opportunity to prepare for the "real" SAT, which students typically begin taking during junior year. For the junior class, it is also an opportunity to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program.

PSAT score reports (including detailed breakdowns of all correct and incorrect answers) have been released through College Board's website, and in order to access scores all students will need to register for an account.

It is very important that when students register with College Board they use the same email address that they entered on their PSAT answer sheet. Parents: if you are creating an account for your child, please be sure to ask them which address they listed.

Additional information regarding PSAT scores can be found here.

Parchment - alumni transcript services

We recently partnered with Parchment to provide streamlined online transcript processing services for our former students.

NOTE: This is NOT how our current students should request transcripts for colleges, summer programs, etc. That process is detailed on our counseling website, and has been explained extensively to our current seniors.
