Notes from the Reading Room

Mrs. Pora's Reading Classes

Why Read?!?

Reading is an important part of our lives, both as children and adults. Learning to read can be challenging and is much easier when the child is surrounded by others who read. Work with your child to create an environment (a special place in a room) where you can get comfortable and snuggle up with a good book, newspaper, or magazine! Look for a cool lamp, pillow or bean bag to make it a fun place to read.

Some Reading Tips and November News

  • Read with your child. Make a game out of it by taking turns reading and acting out what you read.
  • Talk to your child about what he/she is reading and doing in school. Being involved and keeping up with what is going on will help your child be more successful and enjoy coming to school.

  • In the month of November, classroom teachers will be administering the Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment in order to gain more information about your child as a reader. Please encourage your child to do his/her best and show off what a great reader he/she is!
