The Carleton Chronicle
A weekly update from Carleton Middle School.
Upcoming Opportunities
Our Title I program is in the process of planning a Math Evening for students struggling with math content and making connections. This will be in the evening for both students and parents and materials will be sent home for additional support in the math classroom. We will also have a field trip to the Detroit Science Center for any student in our intervention classes on March 12th. Look for more information to come home if your student is in a Title I funded classroom. In short, students will need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to attend this field trip but it should prove to be a very special event that is connected to many curricula being taught in school.
Also, did you know Carleton now has a Ski and Snowboard Club? Have your child visit the main office for more information, as they travel most every Friday to hit the slopes after the school week is complete.
We will also have opportunities for students to work at girl's basketball games. If they are interested in working our concession stand, please see Ms. Lenz in the counseling office to express your interest and availability.
On February 5th, consider getting lunch or dinner from Jet's Pizza at 13450 15 Mile Road, as a portion of their proceeds will come back to Carleton to benefit our students. This is an easy fundraiser so order in and enjoy Jet's on February 5th.
Lastly, we will have an Extravaganza coming up in February. Listen for more announcements at school and check the list of dates below and consider attending. They are a great time and students leave with a lot less energy then when they arrived!
Housekeeping
We want students to be Engaged in the hallway. This is best done by speaking with one another in a conversational tone and not having ear buds in during passing time. Important announcements or teacher instructions can often be missed if your son or daughter is listening to music when they shouldn't be...plus, our experiences often tell us that nothing good comes out of it. An air bud or similar products can often be lost or damaged due to the nature of middle school behaviors.
We also want our students to be Resourceful by dressing appropriately for school. Winter jackets and outdoor wear is not allowed in the classroom setting. Please encourage your son or daughter to be resourceful by dressing appropriately for the cold weather. If you or your child is in need of warmer clothes and do not have the means to provide due to any number of reasons, please reach out to our counseling department and we will assist.
Lastly, we've been doing a lot of incentives and reminders about being Accountable for being on time for class. Encourage your student to be on time and not interrupt instruction for moving too slow in the hallway. Also, Mr. Lee has been conducting a lot of tardy sweeps and students often loose out on cool incentives when they are consistently tardy. Be Accountable and be on time!
Lastly, remember as the snow falls to pull all the way forward in our drop off lane. Door 12 is open and students can enter the building as early at 7AM. When you do not pull all the way forward, traffic is often backing up on 15 mile road.
Thank you very much for your continued support.
Ski and Snow Board Club

A bus is provided and discounted lift tickets are available for those interested in skiing or snowboarding. Equipment rentals are also available with this program. Please visit the main office for more information or contact Robyn Ringl at (586) 615-9948.
See you on the slopes!
