This Is How We Lakeview
February 2023 Edition: Volume 2
Welcome to February!
We have a lot of events coming up! Please see the "For Future Planning" to get a snapshot of everything that we have going on. There are also more detailed sections on specific events. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions about an event.
For safety and security reasons, our main office will be going back to several procedures that we put in place during COVID. 1. If you are here to pick up a student, please ring the bell for the main office. We will get the student and bring them out to you. 2. All visitors to the building MUST HAVE A SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT. Please call the main office (614)830-2200 to make an appointment with an administrator or school counselor or email that person directly and they will let the main office know to expect you.

Black History Month at Lakeview
Our staff and students have planned several activities to celebrate Black History Month.
Week 1 - Black History Month Kick-off
- Students will watch a video that explains Black History Month and then they will have the opportunity to decorate a blank tile with an inspirational word, phrase, or quote that will be displayed in the hallway.
Week 2 - Civil Rights Virtual Museum
- Students will have the opportunity to explore videos related to the Civil Rights Movement.
Week 3 - Black History Month Jeopardy Game
Week 4 - "Finding North" CAPA Education Performance
We will also be doing a school-wide Black History Month Contest (see below) and trivia questions in the morning announcements. Prizes will be awarded.
8th grade to attend Black History Month Production at North
This year, Pickerington High School North is proud to present the BET Awards as our Black History Month Program. The BET Awards is a celebration of black excellence, culture, and creativity that has been in effect since 2001. We believe that the BET Awards reflect the values and stories we wish to share with our students.
Our production will be centered around 6 segments that track the realities of black struggles, but also the amazing stories behind influential people and aspects of life that have been shaped by black culture. This is an important moment for us to show the value of understanding our history and the importance of celebrating black culture.
Lakeview 8th grade students will be walking over to North for the presentation on Wednesday, February 22, from 8:30 am - 9:45 am. This is part of second period and all of PAWtime and E/I, students will be back before lunch. Students will be charged a $5 fee in Infinite Campus for the production. The $5 pays for production costs and community engagement events such as Diversity Club, Clothing Drive, and International Cuisine Night, etc. If you do not want your student to attend, please send an email to Rachael Hanagan.
Sincerely,
Theatre Director, Pickerington High School North

Art Matters at Lakeview Junior High
During the first semester Art ll classes collaborated with 4th grade students at TollGate Elementary for this fantastic project. 4th graders in Mrs. Starkey’s ELA classes wrote descriptive stories about a monster they imagined. Those stories were shared with the Art ll students and each artist then created an illustration based on one of those stories.
Student artists focused on visual details to bring the monsters to life and to create a logical environment for each of the fantasy creatures to reside. Art students balanced individual creative choice and honoring the authors’ ideas to compose their works of art.
Each of the contributing artists below has recently received a long awaited copy of Monsters and Me.
Level Up - Week 6
Teachers have been having data chats with their students to talk about their current iReady scores and predicted performance level for the upcoming Ohio State Tests (OSTs). Level 1 = Limited, Level 2 = Basic, Level 3 = Proficient, Level 4 = Accomplished, Level 5 = Advanced. We are also implementing some new interventions during class and E/I to help our students level up their performance on the state tests. Finally, we have brought back the iReady team challenge. Up until Spring Break, our teams will be completing for the iReady/ALEKS/Membean trophy by trying to get the highest average number of lessons passed per team. Last week Team C and Team D were in the lead. Encourage your student to work on their Personalized Learning Pathway and pass those lessons!
