EXCITING OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARENTS!

Raise money for PTSA by volunteering in the Student Store!

We hope you've heard about our popular Student Store! The CCMS Student Store is an extremely important source of revenue for the PTSA - and a great way to get a peek into what's happening with CCMS students during their lunch hour and right after school. Parents who volunteer there say they keep coming back because it's fun, and they've made new friends. We would love to meet you, too! Please take advantage of this chance to be on campus and volunteer today! Sign up here! Check your Volunteer Clearance (it's easy!) with Ms. Zerpoli in the office prior to signing up to help.

Copy Room Volunteers Needed

Are you looking for a way to get involved at CCMS? Do you like helping out your kids’ teachers? If so the PTSA is looking for volunteers to work in the copy room this year. This is a great way to get to know the campus and the staff. You must be a cleared volunteer and be willing to commit to a hour or two once a week or every other week.

Please contact Allison Herbst (asherbst@me.com) if you are interested.

New Safety Messages for CCUSD Schools

Culver City Walk & Rollers is excited to launch a new safety campaign aimed at improving driver behavior around Culver City schools beginning January 2020.

When Culver City parents return to school from Winter Break, many will see some new additions to the landscape at each of Culver City’s schools. New lawn signs asking them to slow down, drive more safely and pay more attention will greet them when they arrive.

Breaking Down Barriers

Each year we conduct a parent travel survey to help us better understand how CCUSD students get to and from school and what barriers exist that may be preventing more kids from walking or biking regularly. Each year, the message is clear: the top barriers are the number of drivers on the road and driver behavior.

If the barriers are too many cars and unsafe behavior, then helping drivers better understand how their actions affect others while also reminding them of their options would seem a step in the right direction.

The Focus is on the Kids

The new messages – “STOP means STOP”, “SLOW your ROLL” and "Heads UP, Phones DOWN” are designed to encourage drivers to obey traffic signs, slow down near schools and put distractions aside. Each is tied together with the message and graphic of “Watch for Me’ to remind drivers there are other road users besides cars and to focus on them, especially the children.

The underlying message “Rethink your commute” backs up most of the signs. Besides walking and biking more, options to help parents rethink their commutes include carpooling and transit. To help with this, we have updated our walk to school maps, available on our School Resources page.

Be Part of the Solution

The lawn signs are available to all residents that wish to add a student-focused safety message to their neighborhood. For more information, please contact us or call the Walk ‘n Rollers office at (310) 204-4346.
