Friday Is (the Real) Last Day of PTA Winter Flower Sale

They extended last week's deadline to today: The online sale ends Friday (11/5/21) at 11:59pm.

Literacy Night Was a Blast!

Ms. Buchanan, Ms. Gates, Ms. Graham, and Ms. Palmer hosted Literacy Night for us by reading aloud several books such as If You Ever Want to Bring an Alligator to School, Don't! by Elise Pareley and The Day the Crayons Came Home by Drew Daywalt and Oliver Jeffers. Students participated by listening and by using their goodie bags to answer questions about the readings.

Reading 20 minutes each day introduces kids to many more words and increases their understanding, which is reflected in their test scores. Reading silently, aloud or listening to a book all count towards this goal.

Sources of free books to read aloud:

1. Public library. Children can check out up to five books at a time. Apply for a Library Card

2. Check out Epic Books at www.getepic.com

3. YouTube.com also has a number of books read aloud and recorded, including the book 3-5 Graders heard The Day the Crayons Came Home.

Encourage Kids to Write, Too

Good readers are usually good writers! Encourage your child to write stories. These stories can be based on the books you read aloud at home.

School Pictures

Parents can still order pictures online. To order online: www.marcophotoservice.com; Keyword is GBLS.

Gables morning dropoff is 8:45am to 9:00am

School doors are open from 8:45am to 3:30pm.

  • Do not drop off your student before 8:45am unless you have made arrangements with the Latchkey program. Classes start at 9:00am.
  • Only drop students at the side door (East side parking lot), not the front door.
  • Leave driveways (especially the yellow house) and cross walks clear.

Traffic is increasing as the weather gets colder and as Transportation continues to have driver shortages. We are aware of the issues and are working with our community partners to address.
