Welcome to the Woodland Park School District e-Newsletter, which is sent out weekly when school is in session. It serves as a glimpse of some of the wonderful things going on in our schools, as well as a point of reference for upcoming events.

Musical Showcase
Memorial Middle School held its winter music and choral concert on Tuesday evening. Performing before a packed house, the event included performances by the seventh and eighth grade jazz band, sixth grade chorus, seventh and eighth grade chorus, sixth grade concert band and seventh and eighth grade concert band.
Showing Off Their Progress
The members of the fifth grade beginner band at Beatrice Gilmore School performed Wednesday morning for family and friends to showcase their progress in learning their instruments.
Winter Wonderland
The Beatrice Gilmore School third grade classes held their winter wonderland choral showcase on Tuesday morning under the direction of music teacher Ms. Andresen.
CO Heroes
Charles Olbon School last week had an assembly recognizing students that exhibited the CO rules: be a leader, be a worker, be a friend. Congratulations to these CO Heroes! Students will be selected each month for the rest of the year for the honor as part of the program.
Community Helpers
After learning about community helpers during their social studies unit, the students in Ms. Morozowski's kindergarten class at Charles Olbon School created a community helper they would like to be when they grow up.
Feathered Friends
Students in Mrs. Guariglia's PreK class at the Early Childhood Center created their own bird nests in small group instruction as part of their Pet Study.
A Helping Hand
Ms. Face's PreK-3 class at School 1 is lending a helping hand by contributing to the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Service Project. See more details about the town-wide service project below.
Snow Much Fun
Students in Ms. Piedra (Ms. Tobia) and Ms. Bonnie's PreK-3 class at School 1 had some fun with an indoor snowball fight.
Slideshow Presentations
Ms. Gutierrez's third grade class at Beatrice Gilmore School presented their non-fiction Google slideshows during Writers Workshop Non-fiction Unit. Students chose a topic and using their technology expertise, created a Google slideshow that included non-fiction text features such as: introductions, headings, interesting facts, photographs, and conclusions. Students also were recently engaged in their Introduction to Division lesson using counters and whiteboards (shown below).
PreK Registration Now Open for 2024-2025
Registration is now open for tuition-free full-day preschool for the 2024-2025 school year for the Woodland Park School District. Any Woodland Park resident's child who is 3 or 4 years of age by Oct. 1 qualifies for the program. For more information or to register, click here. Transportation must be provided by the family. There are various locations in town.
Students are not placed according to their home address. The program operates on a full-day six-hour schedule, Monday through Friday. Any questions, contact Mrs. Mireya Gutierrez, Director of Early Childhood Education, at mgutierrez@wpschools.org or 973-317-7717.
Chipotle House System Give Back
Chipotle, 70 Willowbrook Blvd., Wayne, will host a fundraiser for the Memorial Middle School House System on Wednesday, Feb. 7 from 4 to 8 p.m. 33% of event sales will get donated back to the school. Order online for pick-up using code J8AQTG4 or show this flyer at the restaurant.
Library MLK Service Project Food Collection
The Woodland Park Library at Berkeley College is running a Martin Luther King Jr. Day Service Project "Weekend Eats" until Feb. 17. The Library is collecting meal bags for local families (see the three choices below). Drop off your items in a paper or reusable bag. Please avoid glass items. Grocery store gift cards are also accepted. Donations can be dropped off at the Library, currently located on the campus of Berkeley College, 44 Rifle Camp Rd.; the Woodland Park Municipal Building, 5 Brophy Lane; or any Woodland Park school building.
- Chili night: chili beans (large can), pinto beans, chili seasoning packet, diced tomatoes (large can), tomato sauce, and whole grain pasta
- Spaghetti dinner: spaghetti sauce (24 plus ounce plastic jar or can), whole grain pasta,
- parmesan cheese, and garlic powder
- Breakfast Bites: fruit cups, natural applesauce, fruit in natural juices, individual boxes of cereal, granola bars (high fiber, 3+ grams fiber per bar), peanut butter and jelly (plastic jars), oatmeal, pancake mix and syrup
