Dentists, Prepare!

Teacher Appreciation

In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, I would like to extend gratitude to the wonderful staff we have here a CMS. They truly have the students' best interest in mind and work to get the most out of their students each day. I am truly appreciative for all that they do to make CMS great!

That being said, hats off to Jodi Largent, and our Center PTA, for putting together a spectacular and extremely creative Movie-Themed menu of meals, snacks and treats all week. Thursday really blew people away with the chocolate fountain, award-winning pastries and golden ticket winners. I mean, the schnozberries every tasted like schnozberries!

I feel bad for whoever will take this on next year. There will be big shoes to fill!

Marty Mustang Looking to be a Mentor?

Mustang Mentors

On Thursday, the Mustang Mentors came down from the high school for their last session of the year with our students. The Mentors provided an informational video for our CMS students of the programming offered at the high school and much of what it entails. Our students provided the Mentors with questions in advance and they all played a game of Kahoot (online school-created trivia) in the gymnasium. I am proud of our students and the mentors for their work in creating relationships that will help our young people transition into high school.

Summer School Opportunities

This summer we will be running two types of summer school classes. Traditional and Online.

Traditional summer school will run for three weeks in June. Sessions will be held at Muraski Elementary June 6-June 24. There will be four classes offered in the traditional format. Physical Education and Personal Finance will be held in morning sessions (7:30-11:30). Health and Economics will be held in afternoon sessions (12:00-4:00). The cost for these classes is $150 for residents and $200 non-residents. The registration deadline for these classes is June 3, 2016. Traditional classes are for credit advancement, not credit recovery.

Online classes will be held at Muraski Elementary from June 6-July13. The lab will be open most Monday through Thursday (the lab schedule is on the registration form). The courses for middle school students are core classes (English, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science) for grades 7 and 8. High school course offerings are the same as the fall and spring. Classes cost $75.00 per semester (most classes have two semesters). Students cannot take more than four semesters this summer (two full classes). Registration for classes will be at Muraski from 9-11am on May 24 and finish on May 26. Parents can also register for these classes online. Online classes are for credit recovery, not credit advancement. Students must have failed the class in the traditional classroom before taking these classes.

Student Spotlight

Wenli Wu, an eighth Rulers Team member, is the Xtreme Team's choice for Student Spotlight. Wenli is an accomplished artist whose original dance design graces the cover of 2015-16 CMS Yearbook. She also placed second in the Strongsville Anti-Bullying Poster contest, and was our CMS winner for the PTA Reflections contest. Wenli also is a member of our Girls Track team, a member of the Principal's Roll, and spends her free time helping her parents with their massage therapy business. Comfort Spa, as they are opening a Hudson location, along with their current location at South Park Mall. When she is not busy with school, Wenli enjoys drawing, reading and re-learning her native language, Mandarin Chinese. Wenli's favorite subject at CMS is English because she can express herself-her favorite thing is writing, especially narratives and poetry. Her favorite thing about CMS is that everyone is down to Earth, and that makes going to school comforting and enjoyable. In the future, Wenli would like to pursue a career in Real Estate, finance and investments while still starting her own charity. Wenli knows her goals are big, but to get there, she's ready to focus on what she wants in order to achieve her dreams- which start with attending Yale University. From our point of view, there no limit to what she can accomplish! Congratulations, Wenli!
