Principal's Message
Good news! the Governor's initial budget for 2018-2019 includes continued funding for adult education. As part of the state requirements for adult education, we must serve students whose goals are to get a high school diploma or equivalency; transition to post-secondary; get a job, better job or promotion; or obtain citizenship. We do this by helping students learn English (ESL), improve basic skills (ABE) and/or earn credits towards the high school diploma or prepare for the high school equivalency exam (ASE).
Staff go to laraec.net to REGISTER for the 2018 LARAEC Conference on Saturday - March 10.

ESL News
I hope everyone is settling into their classes successfully and working hard toward individual academic and life/work goals. Successful language students practice English outside of class every day at home, at work, and/or at the supermarket. Talk with your teachers and make sure each of you has a plan for where you can practice your developing English skills every day. Have fun with your new skills!
This week we will have a visitor from the Venice Family Clinic come to talk with our ESL classes about immigration rights and how to protect your family. The event is Friday, February 9th from 6:30-8:30 at the La Ballona Elementary School Cafeteria. Childcare is available. Food will be served and there will be free notary services for creating legal caregiver documents in the event of deportation (if you don't have a passport or Ca ID, you will need two sworn witnesses with proper ID).

Graduate Review – 5 more graduates since December!!!
FREE TRANSITION TO COLLEGE CLASS
Students receive assistance with completing the application and learn about the opportunities and benefits of post-secondary education. The class is composed of 3 meetings in our school and 1 meeting at West LA College which includes a campus tour. This is part of a collaboration effort between our adult school and the community college. Everybody is welcome to attend, but you need to stop by room 4 in order to add your name since space is limited. The next class will start in March.
FREE CLASS TO HELP YOU GET A JOB
Take this free course to prepare your resume, practice your interviewing skills, and apply for jobs. Students will also learn about free job training opportunities, workforce safety and rights, and receive free job placement services from a job coach.
Class is Fridays from February 9 to March 23 from 9 am to 1:15 pm. Students may earn elective high school credit when completing class requirements.
