CHARGER CHRONICLES
June 28, 2022
THANK YOU: PARENTS, GRANDPARENTS & TEACHERS
Many thanks to our parents, grandparents, and teachers who volunteered their time at the SMM Fair this past weekend, especially those who served on the Fair Committee and were here the entire weekend. Coach Gay would also like to personally thank her "Rock Stars" (you know who you are) who, during the weekend, would check in and take extra shifts when we were short handed. Also, thanks to those who contributed prizes for our Mardi Gras Booth and cakes for our Cake Walk.
The fair was a great success due to all your hard work! AND everyone had a great time.
All Saints Day Celebration
Dear Parents,
We would like to invite all of our students in Pre-Kindergarten through 7th grade to dress as a favorite saint for our All Saints Day Celebration of the Eucharist on Tuesday, November 1, 2022. Students in grades Pre K3, Pre K4, K, 1, 2, 3, 6, & 7 will attend Mass at 8:30am. Students in grades 4 and 5 will attend Mass at 10:15am.
If you choose for your child to participate, which is completely optional, we ask that costumes be very simple. An example is a tunic which can easily be placed over the regular uniform, with perhaps a veil or cowl. We want to be a source of reverence and not distraction. A card identifying the saint should be pinned to the costume or worn as a small placard around the neck.
Costumes may be worn (over the regular uniform) to school that morning. Students in costume will be asked to stand in place and be recognized during Mass. All costumes are removed in the classroom after Mass, so please send a bag for the costume to be carried home.
Thank you for considering this option on a wonderful holy day. It adds great joy to our celebration and reminds us all that the purpose of Halloween (All Hallows’ Eve), is that it is the night before we celebrate the saints! It is a reminder that we are not home yet! We are all aiming for eternal life in heaven.
If you have any questions, please contact me at aenright@saintmmschool.org.
In Christ,
Amy Enright

SAFE ENVIRONMENT TRAINING FOR SMM STUDENTS
Safe Environment – Empowering God’s Children!
As caring adults, we have the tremendous responsibility of ensuring the safety of our children and youth. The prevention of abuse requires more than adult awareness, education, and training about the nature and scope of concerns. We must also give children and youth the tools they need to help us keep them safe by educating them regarding boundaries, safe and unsafe behaviors and healthy relationships. “Empowering God’s Children” is an age-appropriate comprehensive program through which educators (teachers, catechists and youth ministers) and parents can give children and youth the tools they need to protect themselves should someone try to violate their boundaries. The program provides a yearly theme that introduces and builds on the basic concept of teaching boundaries and safety. The material is developmentally appropriate for each age group and includes content and activities that reinforce these messages and skills. Within each lesson plan is the ability to tailor the activities and messages to meet the needs of the children and youth at all levels. At St. Margaret Mary School, these lessons will be taught during the week of October 31st thru November 4th.
PLEASE NOTE: You have the ability to “opt” your child out of the formal in-program safety lesson if only you plan to provide safe environment education at home. If you choose this option, you must stop by the school office to complete an OPT-OUT form on or before October 28th.
Any questions concerns can be directed to Denise Sanchez, our School Counselor, at dsanchez@saintmmschool.org or by calling the school office at 985-653-4612.
God Bless!
NWEA MAP Formative Assessments 2022-23 - Parent Meeting November 10
We have begun to participate in NWEA Map Formative Assessments here at St. Margaret Mary and across the archdiocese. Students in grades Kindergarten through Seventh took an initial assessment in September and there will be subsequent assessments at the middle of the school year (January 30-February 17) and again at the end (May 3-19). MAP Growth scores provide data regarding students’ performances by measuring both Achievement and Growth. Achievement results indicate how well your child has learned skills in a subject compared to similar students nationwide and Growth results are a measure of your child’s personal progress and growth over time.
Results of SMM Fall Summative Assessments are very encouraging. Reports of results are both comprehensive and extensive and teachers are in the process of reviewing class and individual student profiles. Teachers will use these results to tailor instruction to meet the needs of their students. These reports will help to pinpoint areas of learning which require additional attention and ones that have been mastered, both individually and at various grade levels, in order to determine the best course of action to pursue.
The report of your child’s individual results, “Fall 2022 Family Report” is being sent home this week. For more information about MAP Growth, visit the MAP family toolkit at NWEA.org/family toolkit. The family toolkit includes helpful videos and resources just for parents.
Please plan to attend a parent meeting on Thursday, November 10th, from 6-7 p.m. in the SMM cafeteria. --Mrs. Denise Sanchez, M. Ed., School Counselor
