Dear Parents,
What an exciting time of year this is at the Whiteman Elementary! This is when we see many students take giant leaps in their learning. Students who have struggled with being “tuned into” learning are starting to take off. Students who struggled with reading fluently are sounding like pros. Students who have fought with their addition and subtraction facts are finding that things are starting to click. This is a true testament to all the work done at school and at home since the start of the school year.
So, let’s keep the positive growth going with the coordinated efforts between home and school. Remember, you can/should read with your child each night.
Students need to read with you for
(1) a fluent model of what reading sounds like,
(2) seeing that you value the practice needed to grow as a reader,
(3) continued practice of strategies and skills learned at school,
(4) quality time for you and your child.
Thank you for your continued support at home!
Math Night
Exciting plans are being made for our FAMILY MATH NIGHT on Thursday, January 18th from 5:00-7:00 PM. Plan to come for dinner and participate in fun math games and activities for students of all ages. We will even have a robotics demonstration.

If your child is chosen for a Character Kid during our Character Assembly. Parents will be informed by the teacher and are welcome to attend the assembly too.
Every school in the district recognizes their Character Students at a district sport event. January and December Character Students will be recognized on January 30th at the Boys Varsity Game at 7:30.
For Whiteman Elementary we have recently implemented our character students having the opportunity to eat on the stage with the Principal. January students will get to eat on the stage with the principal on January 30th.

A whimsical 6.5' wooden gumball sculpture was created by 4th grade students at Whiteman Elementary during the 2016-2017 school year. We will be taking bids on this online auction to provide funds for needy children in our community. The starting bid will be $50.00 and we will be taking bids until January 31, 2018.

PJ Day
eS2S
Excited to let parents know that we are now an eS2S school and will have a group of students supporting our students here at Whiteman Elementary.
Most military-connected students move six to nine times during their school years. Feeling like the perpetual “new kid” can be stressful – just finding someone to eat lunch with can make a difference. MCEC offers student-centered and student-led programs at the elementary, middle and high school levels to ease transitions, and create a positive environment. Mrs. Hennrich our counselor will lead this group and we have already began brainstorming ideas on how to support our families and students coming to Whiteman.
