Kennebunk High School News

Have an Amazing Weekend!
Dear Kennebunk High School Families:
Tuesday's Hold in Place:
I wanted to thank everyone for your patience and understanding during the hold in place that was initiated Tuesday. Many school districts around us also initiated a hold in place - this is pretty typical when an area school is dealing with a potential active shooter report. Fortunately, Sanford's report was found to be a hoax. We take these situations very seriously and the safety of our students and staff is a top priority.
Community Service:
The holiday season is upon us and there are many opportunities within the community to lend a helping hand especially during the busy Christmas Prelude in Kennebunkport. Please check out the Community Service bulletin board across from the guidance office for upcoming events and organizations that could use your help. In addition, please check with your Class advisor to learn about various class fundraising activities where you can help your Class while getting community service hours!
NWEA Reports:
Students in grades 9 & 10 will be receiving NWEA reports soon to take home. When that happens we will send out a communication so that you can be on the lookout for it.
Identification:
When entering the building during school hours visitors will be required to scan their license into our Indent-a-Kid software. This is a precaution that all schools are required to abide by.
Updated District Transportation Policy:
Please click HERE to see the updated guidelines for RSU21 transportation. The biggest piece of this policy to note is that in order to take a different bus - a note must be provided 48 hours in advance to the school office.
Notes from Officer Champlin:
Officer Champlin is away for a few weeks. We will have a rotation of officers in his absence.
TNTP:
Be on the lookout for the TNTP survey information. A link will be sent to your emails as the survey will launch in November and close on December 16, 2022.
Twitter:
Twitter is something that I have tended to use throughout my career. If you would like to follow for updates please go to @principalkhs.

Class of 2023 Website
We have created a website for all things senior year! Please click HERE to see the new site.
The Class of 2023 is busy fundraising for Project Graduation and we need your help! We currently have four fundraisers in place:
Prelude Parking
Two local businesses have generously donated their parking lots to the Class of 2023 the first weekend in December for Prelude. All money we make selling parking spaces that weekend will go toward Project Graduation. The Sign Up Genius for the Prelude Parking fundraiser is here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0F44A9AC2BABFF2-prelude1. We need MANY volunteers to pull off this fundraiser, so please consider signing up for a time slot and encourage your students to volunteer, as well!
Poinsettia Sale
The Poinsettia Sale ends on Sunday 11/27. There is also a place on the order form for people to donate to the class in lieu of ordering flowers; this is a great option for family and friends who do not live locally but want to support our students! Please consider posting the order form link on your social media pages and sending it to family, friends, coworkers, and community members who may be interested in purchasing poinsettias for the holidays or simply donating to the class. Here is a flyer if you would like to post it online or around town.
Souperbowl Auction
On Saturday, February 11th, the Class of 2023 Parent Group is holding a fundraising event at the Kennebunkport Land Trust. The group is currently collecting donations for a Silent Auction to be held at the fundraiser. Right now, they are looking for gifts cards and "big ticket" items but also donations of lessons and services as well as experiences. If you or your family have any goods, services, or gift cards to donate, please contact Emily Valentino (evalentino1025@gmail.com).
Senior Cabaret
KHS's annual Senior Cabaret is back! The Cabaret is a three course sit-down dinner at the Nonantum with student performances and entertainment throughout the night. All proceeds from the event go toward the Class of 2023 Project Graduation! This year's Cabaret will take place on Monday, December 12th at 5:30pm. Tickets for this event are $75 and will be capped at 70 seats. For ticket sales, table reservations, and meal selections, call Tim Ames at the Nonantum at (207) 494-1266.

2022 Youth in Government
This year's Youth in Government Conference was attended by 20 KHS students along with 100 other students across the state who enthusiastically participated in the legislation process. Kennebunk students wrote 12 bills and were elected to a number of leadership positions.
Senators included Seamus Faherty, Robert Jacanin, Gavin MacDonald, and Drew Slikowski. House Representatives included Anthony D'Elia, Mekhi Gillard, Sam Jacanin, Lilly Knappe, Margo Limmer, Katie Manning, Evan Mills, and Nick Vasquez. Media journalists included Eva MacDonald and Aubree Veilleux. Senate leadership included James DiGiovanni and Tim Teguis. Adora Olise served as the House Clerk. Evan Mills was this year's KHS Governor's candidate for Maine State Youth Governor. While Evan ran a great campaign, he was edged out by the candidate from Brunswick High School. Inquire with Adora Olise about her upcoming experience at the National Youth Conference in Washington DC. She will be one of a small handful of students in the country who will be meeting with a delegation of U.S. legislators to lobby on behalf of important topics concerning American youth.

Visiting Colleges & Universities
In order to attend, you must sign-up through Naviance and also talk with your teacher about missing some of your academic class on the day of the visit(you will need a pass from them to attend). Most teachers will be flexible if it is discussed in advance but you may not be able to attend due to a test or other special circumstances. No worries, if you let guidance know you are interested in the school but can't attend the information session, we are happy to collect materials from the meeting and pass along contact information for the representative. Believe it or not, colleges keep track of how many times you connect with the college either through a college fair, campus visit or school information session, so use this opportunity to your benefit. It displays your interest in the college and could impact your admission decision.
A few of the visits are actually virtual and you will still need to sign-up for these meetings through Naviance. If you are in school at the time and will need a place to take part in the meeting, let the guidance office know in advance and we will do what we can to find you a place to sit while the meeting is in session.
Below is the current list of schools scheduled to visit but the list is constantly changing and if you don't see the name of a school you are interested in, please stop by guidance and let us know.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mrs. Wiewel
ON THE SPOT ADMISSION DAYS AT KHS COMING UP SOON
We have seven colleges conducting “On the Spot Admissions” or “Application Reading” Days at KHS in November and December. These meetings may result in an admission decision as well as an estimate for merit based financial awards or at the very least provide you with feedback regarding your application and potential for a positive admission decision. If you are interested in any of these opportunities you must connect with the guidance office to review the specific application process for each college and to schedule an appointment to meet with the admission representative. Applications are free for each of these visits. When submitting your Common Application and you are prompted for payment, please select "Fee Waiver" or "High School Admission Day." Do not pay for your application because you will not be able to obtain a refund after the fact. In addition, for schools where submitting SAT scores is optional, please indicate whether you want to submit your scores when you sign-up to participate in the Admission Day. The dates for the in-person meetings are as follows:
