BEAR TRACKS
November 14, 2021 • Updates from Roosevelt Elementary
Roosevelt Elementary students and staff will benefit from a Gesa Credit Union’s Local Heroes Grant. As one of 23 recipients in Washington state, the Roosevelt Booster Club received $5000 in funding.
With the award money, the Roosevelt Booster Club plans to provide the Roosevelt staff and students with tools they need to strengthen the positive, pro-active school culture that makes Roosevelt a great place to learn and work. The Gesa Local Heroes Grant will provide funding to stock Roosevelt's BEAR Store, to purchase bilingual BEAR Expectations posters, and to fund attendance incentives for students and families. Strengthening Roosevelt's BEAR Expectations and multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) is a powerful way to accelerate student learning, especially after the impacts of COVID.
Join us in thanking Gesa Credit Union and the Roosevelt Booster Club! Read more here and email Booster Club President, Mrs. Linsey Bailey, to get involved.
I would like to pass the Spirit of the Bear award to Mrs. Amae Merrill. She is a great teammate, classroom neighbor, and friend. She is ALWAYS willing to help me (and does so OFTEN!). She also helps out our 3rd-grade team and the entire Roosevelt staff. Her ability to multi-task for us adults while still being focused on the success of her students is amazing. Amae is a great person to work alongside!
Thanks, Mrs. Merrill, for all you do to make Roosevelt a great place to learn and work!
This week, your child starts a NEW UNIT from Second Step® Elementary, a research-based social-emotional learning program that builds children’s social-emotional skills.
In this new unit, your child is learning to manage his/her emotions. He/she will learn how to name emotions, identify their own and others’ emotions, and recognize the importance of managing emotions.
Check out this chart to learn more about this week's Second Step lesson, PLUS a skill that you can try at home!
