TMS Weekly Update 2017-2018

May 11th, 2018

MCAS Days are almost over

With the exception of the eighth grade science MCAS next week and few makeups, we are nearing the end of our MCAS season. Your children have been exceptionally diligent through this process and hopefully we get some good information to help us with our instruction for the upcoming year.

Teacher Appreciation Lunch

A big thank you to those who contributed to the wonderful meal. You treated our staff better than the principal ever could with all the spectacular choices. Thank you to Amy Kilmon for her organizational talents!

Fans of Fans

If you happen to have a fan you are willing to lend, TMS second floor residents could use a little help as their rooms will be warm for the remainder of the year. They can be returned at the end of the year (if you want them back).

Thank you.

Electronic Devices

We are seeing a great deal of cell phone use during the school day. A reminder that students can only use their cellphones during the school day with teacher permission. If you need to get in touch with your child immediately, please contact our main office. Students have been made aware of this during their lunches.

Author Visit

Kate Messner, Author Visit Grades 5-7

Three years ago, TES welcomed author, Kate Messner to their school. She mesmerized them as she talked about her books, where she gets her ideas from, and how she does her research for her books. They talked about Kate's presentations long after her visit! Next month, Kate's publisher is sending her on a book tour to promote her newest book, "Breakout." Because of her positive experience at TES, she recently reached out to them to see if Tyngsboro would like to be one of the stops on her tour. We quickly agreed. Kate will be visiting grades 5-7, the same kids that listened to her talk when they were 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Over the next month, teachers will share and read a small excerpt of Kate's new book. If students would like their own copy of "Breakout" in time for Kate's visit, the link for purchasing Kate's book can be found below. Using this link is the only way to guarantee that the students will have her book when she visits. Part of her visit will be dedicated to signing copies of her book that students order through this link. The deadline to order is May 29th. In the order comments please put the school's name, the teacher's name, and the student's name. Choose the "pick up in the store" option so as not to be charged a shipping fee. Use the coupon code: BCPMessner18 to get 10% off the purchase. We look forward to Kate's visit in June.

Reminder from the Health Office

Attention Parents/Guardians of current 6th grade students:

Under the guidelines of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the Massachusetts Department of Education, it is the policy of the Tyngsborough Public School District that all students are required to submit a current Physical Examination report to have on file in the nurse's office prior to entry into the 7th grade. Examinations must be dated within the previous twelve months to be considered current and must include a certificate of proof of immunization. Per state requirements, proof of the following immunizations must be on file for your child (prior to entry in the 7th grade): 3 doses of Hepatitis B, 4 doses of Polio, 2 doses of MMR, 2 doses of varicella and 1 dose of Tdap (105 CMR 220 000).

If you are unsure if you have submitted a copy of a recent physical exam with proof of the required vaccinations, please contact our nurse, Michelle Riley RN at 978-649-3115 option 4.

Back Door locked at 7:25

We are locking the the back entrance at the beginning of school. If you are dropping off and the bell has rung, have your students enter through the front door and have him/her check into the office.

Anybody for a good old game of kickball?

Late Bus Pickup

Parents, who pick up their students at the Late Bus time of 3:45 pm - 4:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, have been parking on the right-hand side of the loop and the buses have had to park on the left-hand side of the lane. This is a safety issue and needs to be avoided. Please use the parking lot in the front of the building and not the bus loop lane to pick up your child on Tuesday and Thursday.

Tyngsborough certainly has talent! Great night for TMS/THS and FOTT
