Governance Board Training
When was the last time your governance board was trained?
As a charter school’s governing body, the governance board is legally responsible for the academic, financial, and operational quality of the charter school. The Wisconsin Resource Center for Charter Schools (WRCCS) feels it is critical to have effective governance in order for a charter school to reach its full potential. With WRCCS existing body of knowledge, partners from across the country, and case studies from WI charter schools to offer best practices, we can help support your charter school to establish and maintain an effective governance board.
Governance board training focuses on the Charter Governance Board Responsibilities and addresses many of the governance Board competencies found in the WRCCS Competencies. WRCCS and our partners have specifically worked with WI charter school governance boards in the following areas:
Developing School Performance Measures for the charter contract
Strategic Planning
Routine Board Operations (ex. Effective board meetings, reporting)
School Leadership Evaluation
Charter Governance Board Evaluation
Strategic Planning
Recruiting, Nominating, Orienting New Board Members

Performance Measure Support
How do you measure success?
Wisconsin charter schools are public, nonsectarian schools created through a business-like contract or "charter" between the charter governance board and a school district or other Wisconsin chartering authority. Wisconsin charter school law gives charter schools autonomy in exchange for greater accountability for school performance. The charter contract should define these performance measures. WRCCS supports the development of performance measures with authorizers, governance boards, and school leadership and staff. This WRCCS Performance Measures Guide is a start. WRCCS is more than willing to schedule some personalized support for your school to ensure the whole story your charter school is being measured and reported.
