STATE SEAL OF BILITERACY UPDATES
We are excited to announce that California will be offering the State Seal of Biliteracy (SSB) again this year. This program recognizes high school graduates who have attained a high level of proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing one or more languages in addition to English.
This year, California has made some changes to the application requirements as outlined in Assembly Bill (AB) 370. The changes went into effect on January 1, 2024.
The changes outlined in AB 370 led us to update our SSB application for 2024.
Whether you are a senior planning to graduate this year with a State Seal of Biliteracy or a freshmen who might be interested in achieving this high honor in a few years, you will want to review the new State Seal of Biliteracy Requirements. The updates to the requirements might change how you plan to achieve your Seal of Biliteracy.
We are so excited about this opportunity for all PUSD students!
Seniors, your applications are due April 26, 2024.
If you have any questions, please send us a message through Canvas.
4. WOLVERINE HIGHLIGHTS
INCREDIBLE ATHLETE
Allie's Impressive Double Silver
· Slalom(SL) U16 Category : 2nd Place
· Giant Slalom(GS) U16 Category : 2nd Place
In Aspen Snowmass, Colorado, young ski enthusiasts from across the nation gathered for the NASTAR National Championships, held from April 8 to 13. Among the competitors was a talented young skier Allie(AKA YeWon) Lim, who showcased remarkable skill and determination. Allie achieved an impressive feat by securing second place in both the Under-16 Giant Slalom (GS) and Slalom (SL) events.
The NASTAR National Championships are a pinnacle of amateur ski racing in the United States, drawing participants of all ages to compete in various divisions. The event is known for its vibrant atmosphere, complete with races, DJ's, and pacesetting by U.S. Ski Team athletes. It's a week-long celebration of ski racing that includes not just the competition but also a range of activities and opportunities for racers and spectators alike to enjoy the alpine environment.
Allie's accomplishment is particularly noteworthy as it demonstrates her versatility and skill in two of the most challenging alpine skiing disciplines. The Giant Slalom requires skiers to navigate a course set with gates spaced at a greater distance, demanding high-speed turns and quick reflexes. The Slalom, on the other hand, features closely spaced gates, requiring tight, technical turns and a high level of precision.
Securing second place in both events at such a prestigious national competition suggests that Allie has both the talent and the competitive spirit to excel in the sport of alpine skiing. Her performance at Snowmass is a testament to her hard work and dedication to the sport. It also highlights the importance of youth participation in ski racing, as it fosters the development of future champions and contributes to the vibrant ski racing community.
As the NASTAR National Championships concluded, participants and their families celebrated the achievements of all racers. For Allie, the second-place finishes in both the U16 GS and SL events are not just personal triumphs but also stepping stones to future successes in her skiing career.
