Instructional Focus of the Week
I have seen great use of our turn and talks in classes this week. Let's continue to ensure that we are listening for the ESR from scholars and that we are letting the SCHOLARS "nail" those points and not US!
Literacy
Read Alouds
- Use of talk and talks and ensuring that scholars nail the correct response and that scholars know the correct response to questions asked.
Eureka Math:
- Continue focusing on pacing with Eureka (use your timers)
- Precise language
August Core Value Winner is:
Marilyn Mikulec! Congratulations Marilyn!
Marilyn is a selfless servant and rock. She loves her scholars and Peak so well. She has been one of the most dependable people on our staff for years and that exemplified by her willingness to step into the classroom on her own and deliver standout instruction on a daily basis. Thank you Marilyn for putting others before yourself. You are a my true grit gryphon.
She not only has stepped up into a different role than she expected for the beginning of the year but she has gone above and beyond to make sure that she is well prepared and ready to give the scholars the best experience and to create those great expectations and procedures for a successful school year. She has done everything possible to make sure all scholars needs are met. She made sure to set up a warm and inviting classroom. She has shown rise together by working not only with the Kindergarten and leadership team and with interventionists for all her scholars. She has elevated expectations by making sure that scholars are held to high standards. Marilyn has such a happy demeanor towards all that she has done and is warm and inviting to any scholar into her room. She multitask so well making sure everything is ready. She has given up a lot of her own personal time to make sure that the classrooms were well prepared. She makes such a great impressions to parents and leaves them reassured that their scholars are always in good hands. Thank you for all you have done for our scholars and school.
Campbell's Counseling Corner!
Peak Staff!
Thank you all for being so attuned to your scholar’s social emotional health! So many of you have reached out or have encouraged your scholar to reach out and I can’t express what a difference YOU have made. As a reminder, the referral forms for teachers and scholars are right outside my office. You may leave them in my mailbox or hand them to me – never leave them on my desk! Please ensure you have contacted parents via phone or Bloomz if you are making a referral (unless it’s an emergency!)
Do you have any scholar’s who are having a difficult time focusing, following directions, completing assigned work, etc.? Try the 2 x 10 strategy and witness the growth!
“The 2×10 strategy is simple: spend 2 minutes per day for 10 days in a row talking with an at-risk student about anything she or he wants to talk about.”
“…this strategy helps teachers focus on the good in their most challenging students so we can avoid falling into the trap of viewing a disruptive kid as a problem instead of a person.”
