When Bluetooth technology emerged, I found it strange to see people walking around talking with themselves. This must be what it's like for unbelievers observing a Christian's life. They see us talking to the air in prayer, singing to something unseen, and rejoicing for no known reason.
But consider this: Jesus was a man of flesh and blood. People could see and touch Him, yet seeing they still didn't believe.
“Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen” (Mark 16:14).
The key to this passage is the word believe.
That emphasis is in line with the thrust of Mark's gospel, because this gospel does not present Christianity as just a nice story, a fascinating account of events that took place in the first century.
It stresses the fact that the death and resurrection of Christ is something to be believed, and it is intended to change lives.
As we act on our belief, it changes us.
