Leadership Message

World Teachers' Day: Tuesday, October 5, 2021

As a teacher, I have always known the knowledge, heart, and faith it takes to teach and to respond to learners and their families every day. It is not a profession you can simply describe or chalk up to lesson plans and highlighters. Because Catholic teachers are called to see every student as a child of God, created in His image and for purpose, this is a calling that takes incredible commitment and unconditional love.

As a principal leading through this pandemic, I have observed and witnessed the most profound commitment to this vocation of teaching. In spite of worries and wonders, fears and pressures, teachers continue to show up with grace, with dedication, and a commitment to serve students and their families, regardless of what it takes.

Every single day I observe another staff member going above and beyond to meet a child where they are at and Connect, Love, and Teach. The commitment of teachers continues to inspire me every day.

This Tuesday, October 5th is World Teachers Day. I invite you to take a moment with your child, say a prayer for their teachers, and send in a message of appreciation to staff. Make a card, send an email, bring in a coffee for the morning drop off, any simple gesture to share your gratitude will go a long way.

At St. John, on Tuesday, Mrs. Greene and I will recognize all staff as teachers and honour the good work and service of everyone in our school with a little surprise. May God bless teachers on Tuesday and every day!

"Therefore, my beloved brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain." -1 Corinthians 15:58
