Sectionals have resumed!

What is a sectional?

A sectional is an instrument-specific rehearsal that takes places before or after school once a week. In these rehearsals, students will learn instrument-specific techniques and music that cannot be covered in regular band classes.

Who will be required to attend sectionals?

As of right now, only students in the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will be required to attend sectionals. Sectionals are an extension of our regular band classes, so it is vital that every student required to attend sectionals is present on their scheduled sectional day/time.

What time will sectionals be?

Sectionals will be from 7:20AM-8:10AM.

What day is my sectional?

Tuesday - Clarinets, Bassoon, Trumpets, Horns

Wednesday - Saxophones, Trombones

Thursday - Flutes, Oboe, Euphoniums, Tubas

What if I don't have a ride?

Students, if your parent or guardian is not able to take you to sectionals due to work, no car, etc., please make every effort to see if you can get a ride from another student. Parents, if you are able and willing to give a ride to a fellow Stockton Band member that plays the same instrument as your child, it would be greatly appreciated!

Fun fact: Many years ago while they were still in school, Mr. Medrano and Mr. Wilson used to give rides to their fellow band members so that they would be able to attend sectionals!

What time will the Band Hall open and where do I get dropped off?

The Band Hall will open at 7:10AM on sectional days. See the map below on where to get dropped off.

UIL Concert & Sightreading Contest

Tuesday, March 30th, 8am to Thursday, April 1st, 4pm

Willis High School

Exact performance dates and times are to be determined.

What is the UIL Concert & Sightreading Contest?

Every year, the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band is REQUIRED travel to another school (Willis High School) to perform at the UIL Concert & Sightreading event. At this event, the students are evaluated by a total of 6 judges in two portions of the event - concert and sightreading.

In the concert portion, the Wind Ensemble will perform 3 prepared pieces for the judges that we will have been working on for about 8 weeks. In the sightreading portion, we will be required to perform a piece we have never played before and prepare it in less than 10 minutes!

Who is required to participate in this event?

As of right now, students in Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band are required to attend. Students in Concert Band I, II, and III will NOT be going to the UIL Concert & Sightreading Contest.

If I am a virtual student, can I still perform with the band?

Due to the nature of this event, virtual students will only be allowed to participate in this event on a case-by-case basis. This performance requires extensive preparation, so only virtual students that have prepared the music and have been approved by a director will be allowed to participate.

If you plan to participate, please email Mr. Medrano at by March 8, 2021.

We will assume that you will not be attending if you do not contact Mr. Medrano.

Can parents come and watch?

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, visitors will NOT be allowed to attend the concert (this includes parents).

More information

More information about the UIL Concert & Sightreading Contest will be released in the following weeks. Stay tuned!

CISD JH Band Solo & Ensemble Contest

Due to the surge in COVID-19 cases, the Conroe ISD JH Band Solo & Ensemble Contest has been POSTPONED. The contest will be rescheduled to either May 1 or May 8, but the district has not finalized any new plans yet. There is a possibility of the contest site also changing. We will keep everyone posted as soon as we hear updates about the contest.

If you have already entered into the contest and have paid contest and piano accompanist fees, your payments and entries will still be valid for the new rescheduled date. Parents still needing to submit payments may still do so!

Thank you for your understanding and flexibility!
