Athletic Update
Summer Strength and Conditioning: Our summer strength program came to an end on Thursday July 28th. We had daily average of 300 male and female student-athletes grades 7-12 over the course of the summer. We are excited to see the improvement of all of our young men and women throughout the course of the summer program. Listed below were the dates and times that we had scheduled for workouts.
Coaches In-service: Our 2022-2023 Coaches in-service began on Monday July 25th and went through Friday July 29th. It was a great few days of professional development that covered a number of things from Coaches Expectations to Leadership Training. After the conclusion of Fridays training all staff members are certified and up to date on all mandatory UIL certifications and trainings. We are also all up to date on Concussion, Heat Exhaustion, and CPR trainings as well. We are excited to get to work with each and every one of these young men and women throughout the 2022-2023 school year.
Football: We are extremely excited to start a new season of Coyote football. We opened the year on August first with our 6th annual Midnight Madness. It was a great event that brought in more than 500 community members to support our coyotes and lady coyote cheerleaders. We are excited to say that this event received national recognition from both footballscoop as well as SmartNews. We had a total of 142 players come out for 9th, JV, and Varsity football.
The Coyotes will kick off the season with an Intrasquad Scrimmage on Saturday August 6th at 9:00am. We will scrimmage CC Miller on Thursday August 11th and CC Ray on Thursday August 18th both in Corpus. After the scrimmages we will open the season at home on Friday August 26th at home vs CC King. We are hoping for a healthy and successful 2022 season.
Volleyball: We began our 2022 season with a two day tryout starting on August 1st. The tryouts consisted of multiple evaluation stations over four different practices. We had a total of 61 player’s tryout this year and narrowed the group to three teams of 30 players with 10 players on each of the freshmen, junior varsity, and varsity teams. We will open this season with a scrimmage on the road against CC Miller on Friday August 5th. Our first game will be on the road against CC Carroll on Monday August 8th and we have our first home game on Thursday August 11th against Refugio. After reaching the playoffs the past two years we are excited to continue that tradition!
Cross-Country: The 2022 cross-country season began on Monday July 18th with morning runs and evening pool workouts or maintenance exercises. We currently have a total of 43 boys and girls out for high school cross country. We will be running 3 full girls and 3 full boys’ teams this season. Our season opener will be on Friday August 12th in Rio Grande City. We are running a total of seven meets to prepare us for the district meet which is scheduled for Monday October the 10th.

2022 Convocation - Don't Stop Believing
Alice ISD Convocation was a huge success as 700 staff and teachers gathered at the high school auditorium.
The 80s theme and slogan, Don’t Stop Believing, was a fun way to start the new school year.
Superintendent Dr. Carl Scarbrough welcomed everyone back as employees joined in on the 80s fun by dressing up.
Teachers of the Year from each campus were also recognized on the stage and Elementary Teacher of the Year Graciela Cantu and Secondary Teacher of the Year David Delgado received their plaques.
The employees were also treated to some great 80s music performed live by the Spazmatics, which got the crowd going and motivated for the new school year.
Thanks to everyone who worked hard to bring this year’s Convocation and to all the sponsors who made it possible:
Turner and Ramirez Architects, AJ Logistic Services, Guaranty Title Co., Jim Wells Management Corporation, Mi Casa Home Health, Gulf Coast Federal Credit Union, Texas Champion Bank, Randy Myer/Myer Co., Advanced Dental Care of So. Texas and Indeco Sales.
