Lucy's Library Blast
September 19, 2016
CHANGE IS GOOD
The Wall is coming. No, not that wall. The Library Wall. First of all let say that I am glad that the vision department will have the space allocated from the library. We have several visually impaired students who deserve a convenient, safe classroom.
The timeline for the installation of the new wall is fast approaching...Fall Break, in fact.
Some of the changes:
- We will not be losing any shelf space for the majority of our print inventory. We are removing reference materials to make space, keeping materials that will continue to be used for research, but removing specifically focused sets of books such as Native American History or Science Counts. These are available for teachers (many are primary resources) until Fall Break, when they will be surplussed out.
- Along with that, the shelves holding free books for the kids will be used for other purposes. Therefore the free books will only be available until Fall Break. I have added multiple copies of last year's books from Battle of the Books. You might want to check these out too.
- All of the desktop computers and tables with the corrals will be removed. If you want any of these, let me know ASAP. All of the computers are in working order.
- We will be replacing them with a laptop cart. Use of the library for testing and research will continue as before, however the date that the cart will be available is uncertain at this time. I'll be announcing that in a future Blast. In the meantime, you may bring your laptops to the library for use as a class. Please remember to reserve the library.
- The changes have already begun and you will see books being moved to prepare for the new space. The Bowling St. end of the library will NOT be available starting next week, September 26, because we will be using them to house the books going in the new shelves. Naturally only the books remaining on actual shelves will be available for check out
- The new space will be utilized in accordance with new trends in library use. This means it will be open, inviting, and filled with comfy seating for students and staff. They will be able to read, use a laptop, or for small groups.
