Swansboro High School
March 8, 2020 Weekly Updates
Happy Sunday Pirate Families!
It was an action packed week at Swansboro High School. Congratulations to our softball teams who brought home victories over Southwest and Croatan and our baseball team who also won at Southwest. Our students enjoyed participating in Read Across America Week and were guest readers at Sand Ridge, Swansboro and Queens Creek Elementary, Swansboro Middle School and the Swansboro Excel childcare center. Our clubs were also busy making their impact this week! The National Honor Society hosted a very successful blood drive, our SkillsUSA team hosted a community bbq and our SAVE, Say Something Week was a big hit. Meet at the Fence was rescheduled until Monday because of rain. Our students will have the opportunity to participate tomorrow morning for a $1.00 donation.
Our robotics team is on the road this weekend with their competition at UNC Pembroke. We are still awaiting their final score but as of Saturday night they were in 7th place out of 29 teams. We had 10 students audition for All-State band and 9 students participated in the All-County Honors Visual Arts Symposium. Those artists include Jade Peterson, Grace Raimo, Lillian Whicker, Olivia Byrne, Madeline Vinal, Jolene WIley, Rio Oliver, Adrian Glover and Abigail Bamber.
Please remember that Thursday is an early release professional development day. Students will also receive report cards and participate in a new Say Something Anonymous Reporting System training. This program teaches students, teachers and administrators how to recognize warning signs and signals, especially within social media, of individuals who may be a threat to themselves or others and to say something to a trusted adult or use its anonymous reporting system.
The Swansboro High School “Say Something” response team, administrators and staff have been trained in the program and will be helping our students learn how to use the system during trainings in school this week. More information about the “Say Something Anonymous Reporting System” can be found on the OCS District’s homepage under “District Announcements.”
This is another busy week in athletics with over 20 events scheduled. Please note our schedule of athletic activities to see how you can support our Pirate Athletes. Our community also generated over $5,000 last week for an outdoor basketball court. We will host one last fundraiser to reach our goal on March 19, 2020 at Pizza Hut. Pizza Hut will donate a portion of proceeds from sales that day to help us reach our goal.
