Spring Assessment Season is Here
We will be conducting our Spring assessments in the coming month.
- Illinois Assessment for Readiness- Our state-mandated tests are given in a specific time window once per year measuring growth toward learning standards in math and reading. We will be administering these assessments on March 15, 16, 17 and March 22, 23.
- Illinois Science Assessment- This assessment is given only to our 8th graders in science and will be administered after spring break.
IMPORTANT TO NOTE:
Students will need earbuds or headphones to take these assessments! The assessments are computer-based with information delivered via videos or recordings. Please make sure your students have these and a FULLY CHARGED Chromebook on testing days. Thank you.
DC Trip Opportunity for current 7th Grade Students
I have spoken to many parents/guardians about signing up and still have some room left. Trip dates are October 7, 2022 -- October 10, 2022.
Every traveler will be eligible for Risk-Free Enrollment. These benefits are all included in the price you will see on the website. We do anticipate that our trip will be filled before the end of the month, and we currently have 15 more spots available. Washington, D.C. has lifted ALL vaccination requirements to travel. If you are interested in signing up, or in just reading about the trip, the details, the cost, etc., you can view all that information at the link below:
https://www.efexploreamerica.com/tour-website/2482848PX
All you need to do is put down your deposit and choose a payment plan to secure your students' spot. I look forward to having these spots filled and get as many people to experience Washington, D.C. with us as possible!

Spring Saver’s FUNDrive
Starting Monday, March 14th, you will notice the U-Haul U-Box in the HBMS parking lot! The HBMS National Junior Honors Society, Student Council and Dual Language Ambassador students have been busy making and hanging posters, rolling up plastic bags and making the progress thermometer for the FUNDrive! There will be a friendly classroom rivalry going to see who can fill and collect the most 13 gallon bags. The top collector in each of the three grades will be treated to a donut party!
You can help us out by separating your soft goods (clothing, shoes, jewelry, bedding) from hard goods, which need to be boxed. Homeroom teachers will collect items brought to school in smaller bags and place in the larger 13 gallon bags that Home Depot generously donated to us.
We are happy to offer the convenience of drive up collection dates on:
- March 17th 3:30pm – 6:00pm
- March 19th 10am – 12noon & 2pm – 4pm
- March 22nd 3:30pm – 6:00pm
- April 2nd 10am – 12noon & 2pm – 4pm
- April 5th 3:30pm – 6pm
If you choose to drive up, please make sure you have your student’s classroom information printed on the bags so you get credit!

8th Grade Dance – May 20th: LIGHT UP THE NIGHT
The 8th Grade Dance subcommittees are in full swing! Planning is underway as we build a night our 8th graders won’t forget! While the planning has been largely completed, thanks to the brilliant and creative minds of our parent volunteers, to pull our visions off will require many, many, many hands! If you are able to pitch in an help us to decorate on Thursday, May 19th between 2:30pm and 11pm (yes, you read that correctly), or on Friday, May 20th from 12:30pm to the start of the dance, we would be so grateful for the help. Remember, this is all for the kids! If you are interested in volunteering to decorate and set-up, please contact co-chairs Tracy Vander Mey and Colleen Bailey at: tvandermey06@gmail.com and cleano18@yahoo.com to get your names added to the list.
If you are unable to donate your time, please consider a gift card donation, or monetary gift, to help us offset the costs associated with geniuses at work. So much goes into the planning! 2022-23 PTO Leadership
It is time to begin looking for new leadership for the coming school year. Sadly, Natalie Butler and I will be moving on to high school days, which means we are looking for a new President, Vice President, as well as Treasurer. The opportunity to be the HBMS PTO President has really been a tremendous experience for me. I have been able to work so closely with faculty members, staff and, not to mention, our students. Our leadership team really built some amazing initiatives this year, that will hopefully make the next term for PTO leaders a breeze! Please reach out if you are interested in learning more!
Follow us on Facebook to keep updated on happenings!
Thanks much,
Margie Palmer, HBMS PTO President
