Harding Elementary Newsletter
February 2023
February News from the Office
It is hard to believe we are over halfway through the school year already. The staff at Harding Elementary has witnessed growth in the students, both academically and socially. We hope families continue to reinforce the importance of attending school each day to continue fostering lifelong learners who contribute to the positive culture within Harding.
A couple reminders for the month of February:
* If your child is participating in Valentine's Day traditions, please make sure food is not included with notes or cards. Other options could be stickers, pencils, etc.
* There will be no school on Monday, February 20th because it is our second snow make-up day.
* Next month will be another round of Parent-Teacher Conferences. We will have signups online, similar to October's method. Please be on the lookout for a link from your teacher sometime in mid-February to sign up for a conference. Conference dates are Thursday, March 9th (12:00 PM - 7:30 PM) and Friday, March 10th (8:00 AM - 3:30 PM).
Thank you for the support and communication between home and school. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to our office.
Thank you,
Harding Elementary Administration

Read, Read, Read and Love It
At-Home Reading
Each night, students are expected to read for 15 minutes. Students log their 15 minutes as "one step" on their reading log. Please be sure to help log those steps and return all materials (reading log, books, folder, book bag) back to school each day.
ATTEND, ACHIEVE, SUCCEED
Little Cedar Leader Buddies
Our Harding Little Cedar Leaders would love to work with students in grades K5-3rd to support their academic and social emotional needs. This would be especially beneficial for students exhibiting poor attendance patterns.
Please fill out the following form if a student you know would benefit from a peer mentoring program. Under the guidance of our Student Attendance Improvement Plan Coordinator and our school counselor, students will be matched with a current 4th or 5th grade Cedar Leader.
They will eat breakfast once a week in a separate space and the other days they'll eat breakfast with their Cedar Leader mentor in the cafeteria. They will be encouraged to participate in school programs/activities throughout the school year and will work closely with Little Cedar Leaders in hopes that someday they too will become leaders at Harding Elementary.
If the student is selected and matched with a current Little Cedar Leader, Mrs. Swavely-Ulloa will meet with the student and reach out to the family to fill out a permission slip to participate in our pilot program.
Friendship Bracelet Sale
Student Council will be conducting a Friendship Bracelet fundraiser beginning February 1st and ending on February 14th. Bracelets will be able to be purchased in the auditorium each morning from 8:15-8:45 am. The cost of each bracelet is .50 cents or five bracelets for $2.00. Thank you for your continued support.
SWPBIS
Harding's School-Wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (SWPBIS) program is committed to establishing a social culture within our school in which students expect and support appropriate behavior from one another. At Harding, we strive to...
Be Respectful
Be Responsible
Be Safe
Students who show these traits are rewarded with blue tickets from teachers as recognition of their positive character traits. Each week, winners from each grade level are selected from the collected blue tickets to earn special prizes. In February, the choices are:
1. Teacher Helper (winner picks a teacher to help for 20 minutes)
2. Play a game and win a prize with Mr. Albright
3. Window Decorating
Certain students also have the opportunity to receive Golden Tickets which allow them to participate in a special monthly reward. Please encourage ways for your child to be respectful, responsible, and safe while at home as well. We appreciate and value the connection between home and school.
Breakfast
* K4 breakfast time and entry is 8:55 along the ramp on 6th Street.

Preguntas:
Box Tops
Thanks to all who participated with the Box Tops program. January was a very good month for us. We raised $37.20 in January alone! There were some very good bonuses during this month that really helped raise our numbers.
Most of these bonuses ended on February 1. However, until 2/14/23 if you buy 4 Box Tops items at Giant, we will get 40 bonus box tops. On top of that, Giant will then give us a match bonus, doubling that earning.
Target also has a similar offer, giving 30 bonus Box Tops for 3 purchases and matching it as well.
Check out the Box Tops app for updated bonuses in February.
Thanks again to all who contributed.
