Back to School Information
CGB Elementary - September 1, 2023
Tuesday, September 5th is the First Day of School
September has officially arrived! It was a pleasure to welcome new families and students to our building at open house. I enjoyed the many conversations and being able to greet many families. Thank you for taking the time to make open house an enjoyable time for all of the staff at CGB Elementary.
School begins on Tuesday, Sept. 5th. Below is an update of some back to school information to help prepare for the first week of school. If you are a new family to our district, please contact Kelly, myself, or your child's teacher for any additional or specific questions. We are happy to help out.
Calendars and Schedules
The district will begin a new method for all district calendars. This link on the district website will direct you to a page that will provide calendars for all scheduled events. This will be a collaborative attempt by many staff members to help publicize all the great things going on at CGB. See the link below.
CGB Elementary Handbook
See below for updated student handbook for the 2023-2024 school year.

Parent drop off
Students who are being dropped off by a parent can arrive as early as 8am. We have playground supervisors outside from 8:00-8:25am. There is no supervision of students before 8:00 so we ask that students are not to be dropped off before 8:00. For students that arrive early and want to eat breakfast, there will be a whistle on the playground at 8:10.
Absent Students
If your child is sick or unable to attend school please call Kelly at the elementary office. If we do not hear from you we will give you a friendly call after 9:00 seeking attendance information.
CGB will provide each student one Free Breakfast and one Free Lunch for each student. Families are encouraged to continue to fill out applications for free/reduced meals as this impacts funding to our school district. The school will continue to ask families to fill out their Application for Educational Benefits as it's a tool the school uses to receive funding and allows us to continue to provide educational opportunities for our students
Snacks- In grades 1st-5th, students are responsible for bringing their own snacks for their afternoon snack break. Please make sure it is a healthy snack. They also have the option of having milk with their snack. The cost of the milk is .35 cents and will be charged to your family meal account. Please be aware of food allergies in the classroom. Reach out to your child’s teacher or the office if there are peanut, tree nut, or other types of food allergies.
Early Outs for Staff Professional Development
Students will be released 2 hours early on these days. These are identified on the district calendar. Students will be released at 1:17.
Daily Dismissal Times
3:17 - All students are dismissed.
Graceville/Beardsley students load buses
Clinton students and other students getting picked up by their parents go to the playground/gym for after-school recess.
All students must be picked up by 3:45pm
3:40-3:45 pm - Clinton bus arrives and students load buses. Students who walk home are dismissed.
School Closing Information: In the event that bad weather causes the school to close or dismiss early we have several options for notifying parents. We have text, email and phone calls. Please let Kelly in the Elementary Office know which options you prefer. We will also put these announcements on the radio and local TV stations.
Student Medications: If a student needs to take a prescription medication during the school day, the parent/guardian must provide a doctor's prescription stating the dose and what time the medication should be administered. The medication must be in its original prescription package and will be kept in the office.
The school does NOT keep a supply of over the counter medication on hand. If a parent/guardian would like for their child to take an over the counter medication during the school day the parent/guardian must provide the OTC medication along with written consent for their child to take the OTC. The OTC should be in its original packaging and kept in the office.

Changes to Lunch Programs
FREE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH:
CGB is participating in the Free School Breakfast and Lunch program through the State of Minnesota. This program allows each student to receive one free breakfast and one free lunch each day at both the Elementary School and the High School. All students will continue to be scanned as they go through the lunch line like they have in the past. The school will continue to ask families to fill out their Application for Educational Benefits as it's a tool the school uses to receive funding and allows us to continue to provide educational opportunities for our students. The Annual Public Notice for Child Nutrition Programs has also been updated on the CGB Website and sent to The Northern Star for publication.
ALA CARTE ITEMS AND EXTRA MEALS:
Students who wish to purchase a second meal or additional Ala Carte items from the School Lunch Program will have the opportunity to do so this year. In order to purchase a second meal (which is charged at the adult meal price of $5.00 per meal), a second entrée (extra sandwich, extra slice of pizza, extra Italian Dunker), extra milk or any other extras that might be available on the Ala Carte menu for the day (cookies, chips, ice cream, etc.) students will have to have a positive balance on their account to pay for these extras. There will be no charging of any food items with our new Meal Charge Policy. Students that want an extra meal or entree will need to sign up for the extra food in the office each morning. Leftovers/Seconds will not be offered this year to students.
