Mr. Goetz's Corner
It's hard to believe, but we are almost at the end of the school year! This year has been filled with many changes, but through it all, we've seen the resilience of our Deerfield family demonstrated through each and every challenge. We are excited to see you at Deerfield this coming Monday, June 8th for our student belongings pickup. See below for details about our curbside pickup plan for the day.
Also remember that yearbooks have arrived at Deerfield. If you ordered a yearbook, it will be in your bag with your student's belongings. If you did not order a yearbook, but would like one, we have a limited number of yearbooks for sale for $15. Please complete this form no later than Sunday, June 7th and we will place the yearbook in your child's bag. When you come to pick up the belongings, please place exact cash or a check made out to Deerfield Elementary School in an envelope labeled yearbook in the trunk. We will not be able to provide change.
Spring Pictures will also be in your pick-up bag. Lifetouch would like to offer all families the opportunity to purchase the whole packet of pictures for $20 that we will collect in cash or check at the beginning of the school year. If you do not wish to purchase the pictures, that is no problem at all! Just bring them to the office at the beginning of the school year.
We will also be including the end of the year report cards with your items. Don't miss this important communication tool regarding your child's progress and please take a moment to celebrate all your child has learned this year.
Have a great weekend with your family!
Mr. Goetz
Deerfield Elementary School Curbside Student Belongings Pick-Up Plan June 8th, 2020
Below is our plan for retrieving student items from Deerfield. Please read the information carefully to help us have a smooth process. Teachers have been in the school placing all of the students’ belongings in paper bags with their names on them. Any items that were in the coat closets that were labeled, were placed in the correct bag as well. Any item that was not labeled has been photographed by the teachers and shared with parents. Please let the teachers know if one of the items is yours and they will place it in your child’s bag. Any unclaimed items will be donated. To help manage the number of families picking up at the same time, we have scheduled pickup times by grade level. Please see the schedule below. If you have children in multiple grades, you may come at the one the time that works best for your family. If you need to request an accommodation, please email Mr. Goetz at david.goetz@avondaleschools.org.
Curbside Pickup Date and Times are Scheduled by Grade Level :
9:00am - 10:00am Kindergarten
10:00am - 11:00am First Grade & Lower SAILS Class
11:00am - 12:00pm Second Grade
1:00pm - 2:00pm Third Grade
2:00pm - 3:00-pm Fourth Grade & Upper SAILS Class
3:00pm - 4:00pm Fifth Grade
When arriving, please follow these guidelines:
1. We ask that parents arrive by car, with windows and doors remaining closed throughout the process. Please wear a face covering.
2. Please make a sign on a piece of paper for your right side windshield window with: • Your family’s Last Name, the name(s) of the students that you are picking up items for, and Teacher name. Please see example:
SMITH (Last Name)
Sally Smith (Student Name), Teacher Name
Joe Smith (Student Name), Teacher Name
Alisha Smith, (Student Name), Teacher Name
3. Drivers must follow these directions to create a car line in the parent pickup loop:
● Please respect traffic rules and be courteous of staff and volunteers at all times.
● Please do not get out of your vehicle.
● There will be no human-to-human contact
4. When you are near the front of the car line (next 5 cars), please have your trunk open.
● If your trunk does not automatically open from the inside of your car, then please use proper social distancing to step outside of your car. Then, return to the driver’s seat and proceed with caution. This is the only time you should be out of your vehicle for any reason.
5. A Deerfield employee will view the sign in your window, walkie talkie your name to an employee within the building who will collect your child/ren’s belongings and deliver the bag/s of belongings to your trunk.
6. School Books: Please place any books that need to be returned to school (i.e. library books, classroom books, textbooks, reading support books and book bags) in a bag in your trunk. If a book does not have a teacher’s name on it, please label it with the teacher’s name, so we can return it to the correct teacher. Place books in a bag in the trunk and we will take them.
7. Remote Learning Paper Packets Return- If your child completed the paper packets that were created at the beginning of the school closure, you may return the packet when you pick up the materials. You may place the packet inside the bag. Please make sure your child’s name and the teacher’s name is printed on the packet.
8. Items for teachers- If you have anything else that needs to go to a teachers or staff member, you may also place it in the bag with a name on it and we will make sure that the staff member receives it.
Something to keep in mind: • Please remain patient throughout this process and we will do our best to keep the Car Line moving smoothly. We have made every effort to create a smooth process for the pick up of student items. We appreciate your support and cooperation.
Return to School Survey
Though summer is just about to begin, our sights are on September 1st when our students return for the 2020-2021 school year. As we wait on expected guidelines from the task forces established at both the state and national levels as well as information from the Michigan Department of Education, we have been discussing a variety of scenarios for starting the new year.
We need your input to continue our discussions. Please complete the very short survey on the link below and submit by Wednesday, June 10, 2020. This is the same survey that was sent out by the district on June 3rd. If you already completed the survey, you do not need to complete it again. Your responses will be used as we consider the best and safest environments for student learning and growth. Thank you for your time in filling out the survey.
