BBE Weekly Update

April 19 - 23

BEAR BRANCH NEWS!!

READ-a-THION - We are encouraging our students to participate in our first-ever READ-a-THON, hosted by our BBE PTO. The READ-a-THON will start tomorrow, April 19th, and continue through April 30th. Teachers sent home flyers last week with information and directions to activate and log your child's reading minutes.

Our goal is for each child to raise $25. There will be tiered prizes and challenges for students and the grade-level classes. The money raised will help our staff and students to finish this year on a fun-filled finish line as we raise funding for teacher reimbursement, expand this year's Field Day into a big ol' Kids Fun Day, help pay for 4h-grade end of the year celebration, and prepare PTO budget for next year's events. We hope that you will support us in this fundraiser and support the fun in reading.

** Oh yeah, if 80% of students, that 400 students, set up their read-a-thon, BBE PTO will live stream Mr. Gassaway kissing a pig! **

Scholastic Book Fair - This is our last week for the Scholastic Book Fair. Click here for book fair details. Click here to understand eWallet (A safe, cashless way for your child to shop at the book fair). Click here for a tutorial from our Librarian, Heather Cowham, on how to add money to your child's Wallet account.

4th Grade Parents - Attached is a PDF document and a video for students going to 5th grade. There is important information and frequently asked questions about your child going to 5th grade at Bear Branch Intermediate. We are working on a video presentation, and we will share it with you through School Messenger.

Staff Recognition for April

Teacher of the Month - CATHY WROTEN

My name is Cathy Wroten. My husband, Doug, and I moved to Magnolia in 1990. Magnolia will always be our first home and close to our hearts. We have one son, a daughter-in-law, and a new grandbaby. My son is a graduate of Magnolia High School and also attended Bear Branch Elementary. I started teaching at Bear Branch when he was in Kindergarten. I have been at Bear Branch Elementary for 21 years. My passion is teaching kids the joy of reading. First Grade is special to me because it allows me to pursue that passion. MISD has been good to me, and I appreciate the opportunity to work in a district where we put kids first. The people at Bear Branch are my family, and I feel blessed to be a part of such a great school.

Staff of the Month - MARNE FLOWERS

After being born and raised in Seattle, Washington, I became a Texan girl in 2004. I graduated from college then spent some time in Afghanistan as a government contractor. This experience led me to Houston, Texas where I purchased my home in Magnolia. I am honored to be chosen Staff of the Month! I work with some amazing people, and I am honored to be assisting students in their learning as an Instructional Paraprofessional.
