An e-newsletter from Mounds View Public Schools
October 26, 2020
A likely shift ahead
Last week, we sent a message to District staff and families regarding a likely shift from blended (hybrid) learning to distance learning for our secondary students. You can read the message from Superintendent Lennox here.
Answering your questions
At last week's School Board meeting, Superintendent Chris Lennox answered some of the most frequently asked questions the District is receiving lately, including:
Will the District ever consider bringing back students for full-time, in-person learning?
Can you help me understand the Learning Model Tracker?
Why can private schools have students back full-time yet we do not have our students back full-time?
Will parents and the community be told if there are COVID outbreaks in our schools?
To hear his responses to these questions, watch the meeting video at Agenda Item 5.1: Reopening Updates, 41:30 here.
Did you reply ‘STOP’ to a text message?
Did we send you one-too-many text messages that caused you to reply ‘STOP,’ in frustration? If so, please know that replying ‘STOP’ to a single text message automatically unsubscribes you from receiving all future text messages from any school or District office. Please consider resubscribing so you can receive future emergency notifications, and we’ll do our best to limit our text messages to critically urgent information that is as targeted as possible. To resubscribe, simply call or email any school main office and ask to be resubscribed to all text messages.

Free meals available for curbside pickup
Thanks to new grant funding from Ramsey County, FREE meals will be available for all students every Friday for curbside pickup from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the following sites:
Chippewa Middle School (5000 Hodgson Road, North Oaks)
Irondale High School (2425 Long Lake Rd, New Brighton)
Each bag will contain five breakfasts and five lunches. Meals will be FREE to all those who are under age 18. Families and students will not need to provide a name or PIN number to pick up the meals. Students in the blended learning model will continue to have the opportunity to pick up free meals on the days they are in school.
COVID-19 supply drive
Mounds View High School’s National Honor Society (NHS) is seeking donations of school supplies and COVID-19 safety items for homeless families. This week (October 26-30), donations can be dropped off at Mounds View High School throughout the school day. Additionally, curbside drop-off will be available Tuesday, October 27, and Thursday, October 29, from 7:45-8:15 a.m. and 2:45-3:15 p.m. Supplies needed include gently-used notebooks, folders, pencils and pens. NHS is also accepting hand sanitizers, sanitary wipes and masks. All supplies will be donated to Simpson Housing.

Learning model tracker
Minnesota school districts are asked to determine their learning model based on local health data and the number of positive cases in their county over a period of two weeks. The state will provide updated numbers every week. School districts are permitted to take a more restrictive approach at any time, but cannot take a less restrictive approach. Distance learning is always an option families can choose.
Our latest number: 26.22
Our current learning model: Blended (hybrid) learning
