MCAS Results

The spring 2019 MCAS results were released this week and once again, HBB did great. Individual student results will be mailed home soon. Please note that at this stage, MCAS is really more about how we are doing as a school and as a parent, you should not overly worry about individual results. Overall as a school we are very proud of our results, as we continue to make solid, steady progress in our overall achievement. Every year we take spend a great deal of time analyzing our results and we use those results to make adjustments to our instruction. We also look closely at student performance data and we factor those results into determining potential interventions and or plans for individual students. Lastly, we use the data during our monthly School Council meetings to establish our School Improvement Plan.

After School Clubs

Clubs begin next week!! Please remember that pickup is at 4:30 in the main lobby and we ask that you arrive on time. Also, students will not be released to anyone other than a parent or guardian unless we have a note. Should you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out!

Attendance

Last year the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education made a slight change to the system they use to hold schools accountable. DESE now holds schools accountable for the number of students that are “chronically absent” over the course of the year. Chronically absent means missing school 10% of the time…..or 2 days per month, 9 for the first half of the year or 18 over the course of the year.

Research has shown a direct correlation between student performance and attendance. Missing just 2 days per month can have a negative impact on student performance. Those days can add up fast over the year and we need your help. Poor school attendance not only impacts your child but also our school overall.

We fully understand that kids will miss school. Things come up, life happens and kids need to be out. Overall, however, we ask that you please do your best to ensure that your child is present on school days.

Should you have any questions about this or any other matter, please do not hesitate to contact us!

Clubs run for 8 weeks from 3:30-4:30. All meeting dates will be posted on our school calendar.

Character Word

This year we have made a slight change to the Character Word of the Week. For starters, it's no longer the word of the week......it's the word for the month! Also, we are using a new program called Purposeful People to add some substance to the work we are doing with kids. If you are interested in supporting some of our work at home please review the info below. Please note there is one specific to grades 1-2 and one for grades 3-5

Ralph Fletcher

We are very excited to host Ralph Fletcher again this year who will be visiting classes and speaking to our students about writing. Ralph is a great author and an engaging speaker. The kids enjoyed his visit last year and we are looking forward to his visit again this year. Below is his order form for anyone that might be interested in purchasing his books. Also, thank you to the PTA for brining in some great enrichment for our students!
