Kimball Hill Weekly News

Week of August 23, 2021

A Message from Mrs. LaCamera

What an amazing first week back to school! It is so wonderful to see all of our students back in school. Students have been hard at work learning new classroom procedures, expectations and learning. Next week Thursday, August 26th is our Parent Orientation night at school. It will be broken up by grade sections so that parents who have multiple children can visit other classrooms. If you are unable to attend, feel free to connect with your child's teacher at a different time. We kindly ask that you limit the number of family members to reduce the amount of people in attendance. The times are as follows:

Kindergarten-2nd: 5:00-5:45pm

3rd-6th: 5:45-6:30pm

Specials: 5:30-6:00pm

Morning Drop Off- A big shout out to all parents for their help with morning drop off. It has been going very smoothly. We open doors early for those working parents who need to drop their children off at 8:30 or for those who would like to grab a breakfast bag; which is available to all students for free this school year from 8:30-8:40.

The bell rings at 8:40 and all students that do not need to come earlier, can be dropped off at 8:40.

Procedures:

  1. During AM drop off times, the front parking lot is closed. We encourage all families to utilize our drop off procedure rather than “the park and walk in” method. Our drop off method is designed to build independence and confidence of our students, provide a safe experience and is the most efficient method for the high volume of vehicles dropping off students. If you must, you can park on School Street and students can use Door 10 by School Street for a more convenient entry. The front lot is for staff parking only. If you need to park and come inside the main office, please use street parking, following traffic laws.

  2. If you use the semi-circle in front of school to drop off, all vehicles should enter at the north end of the circle drive and exit at the south end. There will be one lane of traffic.

  3. Pull up as far as possible toward the stop sign to let out your child. Each child should get out of the car on the curb side. Parents should remain in their cars as this will help the line to flow and prevent congestion. Staff will be out front to help students get out of their cars and into the building each morning.

  4. P.M. Kindergarten will be dropped off at the front of the building, using the semi-circle. Staff will be there to receive these students and help them get to their classroom.

After School Pick Up- We have had a very smooth couple days and would like to continue to ensure all students are picked up safely and it is as efficient and quick as possible. Please help us to follow our school procedures and be sure to watch all traffic signs. If you have someone picking your child up that does not have access to parent newsletters, please inform them of the procedures. We greatly appreciate your assistance. Student safety is our number one priority and I highly value the time of our families and by us all working together to follow the procedures, we can reach our goal together.

Procedures: All vehicles using the front semi-circle should enter at the north end and exit at the south end; otherwise please feel free to use street parking, following traffic laws.

  1. Please continue to pull all the way forward to allow for a continuous, safe flow of cars.

  2. Parents will need to remain in their car when their student(s) enters the vehicle

  3. Staff will assist to ensure your child gets to your car safely

  4. Please remind your child to enter the car on the side of the school, if possible.

To avoid a bottleneck, please consider parking along School Street, South or Park. Children can then walk to the car. Please do not park on Meadows Dr. The residential side of School Street is a public street- all traffic laws do apply. Please be aware of blocking the driveways of private homes- this is prohibited. By following, congestion around the building has been avoided, and a safer environment has been created for all children.

Back to School Celebration- Thursday Sept 16th

Now that our school construction project is complete, our PTA will be hosting an outdoor Back to School celebration for all. Please save the date and details will be shared soon!

School Safety Week

Our Kimball Hill safety week will take place the week of September 20th. During this week, we will focus on practicing all of our state required drills (fire, lockdown, weather and relocation). If you do not want your child to participate in safety drills, please let the teacher know by September 15th; otherwise all students will participate in the state required practice drills . Please know that all teachers talk with students so that they understand the purpose of the drill is simply to practice safe and responsible behaviors in case the event of a real need. As a staff, we are very calm and speak at an age appropriate level to ensure all students feel safe and not scared. I will remind you of the weekly date within the parent newsletter and send an email blast after the drill so all parents know we had a drill and if you would like to follow up with your child, if needed at home.
